Harrison had spent over an hour running drills with Daph. His chest heaved as he gulped in air, the rough sound of his breathing echoing through the empty gym.

Sweat poured off him like a broken dam, streaming from his brow and soaking his dark hair, which clung wetly to his forehead, softening the sharp lines of his face and making him seem a little less intimidating.

He looked as if he’d just been caught in a downpour, sweat trickling down his cheeks in steady rivulets.

When Daph peeled off her socks, she realized they were damp as well.

She changed into fresh clothes and clean shoes and socks, then stood by the sink while Selene wet a washcloth and gently wiped her face and hands.

Afterward, Selene led her back out and handed her a container of fresh fruit and a chocolate bar to quickly restore her energy.

Daph plopped down in a chair, legs swinging off the edge.
