The warmth and scent radiating from Adrian enveloped Selene in a peace she’d never known before.
She felt the faint tremor in his body, the tension he tried so hard to hide.
“As long as my girlfriend’s safe, that’s all that matters.”
Seeing Selene standing there, unharmed and right in front of him, Adrian finally let out the breath he’d been holding, his worry dissolving at last.
He loosened his embrace, careful to keep it neither too long nor too tight—doing everything he could to make sure Selene wouldn’t feel awkward or overwhelmed.
But once his gaze landed on her face, he couldn’t bring himself to look away.
He’d handled the hug perfectly, so perfectly that when his warmth and familiar scent faded from her skin, Selene found herself missing it already.
“I’m fine, really,” she said with a reassuring smile.
Adrian asked, “And what about that so-called law-abiding coffee addict? Did the cops take him away yet?”
Clearly, Adrian was well-informed.
The way he insulted Harrison made Selene snort with quiet laughter.
She glanced over her shoulder. “He’s still inside.”
Adrian frowned, confused. “Inside? Are you both just waiting for the police to show up?”
She shook her head. “No, I… locked him in.”
Adrian blinked, eyes going wide in disbelief.
Selene pressed her slender finger to her lips, and Adrian’s attention was instantly caught by the gentle radiance of her expression.
“Please, Mr. Shaw, help me keep this a secret~”
Adrian shot Leo a sidelong glare, his warmth cooling instantly. “Are you saying Selene has bad taste in men?”
Leo’s gaze was icy, cold as a steel scalpel as he studied Adrian like a specimen under a microscope.
“Last one was an idiot. This one’s just an attention-seeker.”
Adrian jabbed a finger at Leo and said to Selene, “As if he could get attention if he tried!”
Selene tugged Adrian’s sleeve, moving him to her other side so she could step between the two men.
She whispered, “Show some respect to your elders.”
Adrian immediately straightened up, putting on his best well-behaved look, “Yes, ma’am. I’ll be sure to pay my respects to our wise elder, just as my girlfriend wishes~”
Selene smiled to herself, certain that Leo, with his infinite patience, would never bother to hold a grudge against Adrian’s antics.
