If Harrison were standing face to face with Felicity right now, he would have noticed immediately that something was off about her.
“Mr. Vaughn, I’ve finished drafting the apology statement,” came the lawyer’s voice through the phone.
Harrison glanced again at the time glowing on Selene’s phone screen.
He spoke crisply to Felicity’s attorney: “Record a video of her reading the apology—make sure she reads it word for word.”
The lawyer grabbed a tripod, set up the phone, and taped the script beside the lens so Felicity would have to look straight into the camera and read exactly what was written.
Felicity clenched her jaw so tightly she almost drew blood from her own tongue.
Selene was being utterly ruthless.
But in the next moment, Felicity reminded herself: as long as she could compete in the upcoming international racing exhibition, she would become, in Harrison’s eyes, the woman who fulfilled Natalie’s dying wish. From that day forward, she would be the only one who truly mattered to him.
If she could just race, her current humiliation and lost reputation would all be restored, along with her ties to those influential young men who used to call her friend.
With the metallic taste of blood thick in her nose, Felicity forced herself to read the apology, each word scraping out of her throat.
“H-hello, everyone. I’m Felicity. B-because of what happened at Sky Pastures Ranch…”
She bit down hard, unable to go on.
As soon as the swelling around her eyes faded, Felicity grabbed her phone and opened the group chat—The Capital Circle—only to find she was now the sole member.
Harrison had left the group. The others had quickly followed suit.
And the video—of her being caned by Victor Thompson while apologizing—had already been posted to the group by Harrison. After watching it, everyone else had piled on, condemning her.
Frantic, Felicity sent a flurry of messages to her old friends, only to discover they’d all blocked her.
“…Because of my actions at Sky Pastures Ranch—where I pushed Selene and Altair down a slope and threw rocks at them—I was detained by the police.
I now fully recognize the seriousness of what I did. Here, I want to formally apologize to both Selene and Altair.”
Behind the phone, the lawyer gestured for her to bow.
Humiliated, Felicity lowered her head. By the time she looked up again, tears were streaming down her cheeks.
“I hope everyone can learn from my mistakes. If this video reaches 999 likes, I will be released early. Please, everyone—give me a like.”
Her nails dug so deep into her palms that crescent-shaped marks appeared in her skin.
The lawyer edited the video, added a caption, and posted it to Felicity’s feed.
“I need 999 likes to be released from the detention center. Please, friends and family, give me a like.”
