“Don’t do anything rash!” Theodore tried to stop him, but it was already too late
“Dad, let me just say this first–I’m an old–fashioned guy. If Selene ends up with someone else, I’ll gladly be her side piece.”
Theodore’s hands trembled as he typed, *“Is it okay for someone unloved to be the other man?“*
Adrian fell silent.
Theodore tried to talk some sense into him, “Son, you may lack morals and manners, but being the other man isn’t something you can just decide to do!”
Adrian froze, numb in the dark corner where he’d waited ten years–ten years, and he still couldn’t even manage to be the other man.
Was there still any hope for him now?
He collapsed helplessly onto the sofa, staring at his phone, at the photo of Selene beaming at Leo.
“Well, I guess all I can do is wish you two the best. No! No, I can’t accept this! Why
can’t there be room for one more?”
He pressed the back of his hand to his eyes and, alone in the darkness, struggled against his own despair.
Gritting his teeth, he muttered, “Leo may have a genius IQ, but I can outlast him any day.”
A brilliant mind is great and all, but someone young and fit like him could bring a different kind of happiness–one that no one expected.
With that revelation, Adrian pulled himself together and sat upright.

He texted Daph, *“No pearl necklace could ever outshine your mom’s beauty!“*
*“Daph, I’m going to change into another outfit.“*
As Daph read Adrian’s message, Selene’s voice drifted over.
“Mom! Mr. Shaw said you’re so beautiful that even pearls pale in comparison!”
Selene’s cheeks flushed instantaneously.
“Adrian said that? How would he even know…”

Daph handed her the phone to show their chat history
With genuine admiration, Daph declared, “I just want to capture how beautiful you are right now, Mom! I want to share it with everyone and show them how amazing my mom is!”
Her daughter’s praise brought a blush to Selene’s naturally radiant face.
Selene knelt down, cupping her chin thoughtfully as she spoke to Daph:
“But if you send my photo to Adrian, I feel like I’m getting the short end of the stick. I know you just want to share, but I don’t want to be the kind of woman men keep in their photo galleries.”
Daph listened, half–understanding but nodding anyway.
“Okay! I’ll take it back. From now on, I won’t send your photos to any of the uncles!”
With that, Daph quickly recalled the photo she’d sent Adrian–thankfully, it hadn’t been long.
Adrian saw the photo vanish and stared at the screen, questions spinning in his
mind.
Daph messaged him, *“Sorry, Mr. Shaw. I sent you Mom’s photo without her permission. She doesn’t want to be someone you just look at on your phone.“*
Adrian replied with a sheepish emoji, showing he understood.
Of course–he was the unloved one.
But it was fine. He liked the idea of Selene looking at his face, at his body, over and over again.
