Lucas’ voice was impossibly gentle.
If Desmond were there, he would have seen a side of Lucas he’d never witnessed before.
The warmth on his face was practically overflowing.
There was even a faint tenderness in his expression that almost looked maternal.
Even Aurora felt it; she couldn’t help but ask, “Lucas, why are you so good to me?”
“Because you’re in my heart,” he said softly. “I’ve liked you since high school. Don’t you know that?”
His tone was filled with sincerity, though with the lights off, Aurora couldn’t see his face clearly.
Only the faint light from the balcony and the moon spilled across the room, allowing her to catch a hazy glimpse of his expression. Yet, even so, it still felt almost unreal.
“High school feelings are so fleeting,” Aurora murmured. “After all these years, you must’ve met women far better than me.
“So do you really mean you’ve loved me all this time?”
Lucas wasn’t surprised by her question. It was reasonable to wonder.
After all, it had been seven or eight years since then.
As the head of a corporation, he’d met countless women—brilliant, charming, and different in every way. How could he have stayed frozen in that one memory from high school?
“Aurora, you have to understand,” he said with a soft laugh. “I don’t fall for people easily. If I did, wouldn’t my love be far too cheap?”
“But you fell for me back in high school,” Aurora countered without hesitation. “If you could fall for someone that easily then, what’s to stop you from doing it again?”
