Lucas sighed inwardly.
The road ahead was still long, and he would need to work even harder.
He took the initiative to cook.
This time, under his pleading gaze, Aurora actually sat down to eat with him. It wasn’t as straightforward a rejection as before.
Delight sparked in Lucas‘ heart. He placed a piece of brown sugar bun into Aurora’s bowl. “I steamed this fresh this morning. I prepped the dough last night, followed an online tutorial. What do you think?”
“You actually had time for this?” Aurora shot him a look.
They’d both woken up around the same time, yet somehow, he’d managed to steam buns so quickly.
Lucas curved his lips into a smile. “Of course I have my own ways.‘
Aurora didn’t press further. Everyone had their own way of doing things.
After breakfast, she headed to the studio.
Lucas wanted to drive her, but she refused firmly.
“No need to send me. I know the way.”
No matter how pitiful his expression looked this time, Aurora wasn’t swayed.
She drove herself to the studio.
Lucas could only turn back to Vanguard Group.
But this time, his mood was clearly better than before, and everyone noticed.
Desmond instantly understood, lifting his head in pride.
One glance at Lucas’s demeanor and it was obvious–his advice had worked.
And true to his word, he had even prepared a more detailed plan.
As Lucas walked past the desks, he called out directly, “Desmond, come in.”
Everyone turned to stare at Desmond in shock.
It was the first time Lucas, so early in the morning, had called someone into his office.
This kind of situation was rare.
But this time, Desmond wasn’t the least bit afraid. Instead, he straightened his collar and walked in with pride written all over his face.
Everyone exchanged looks. Could it be that Desmond had secretly closed some big deal behind their backs?

Impossible. They all worked in the secretary department. Because of that, no projects were ever assigned to them.
Their job was simply to meet Lucas‘ needs.
No matter how they racked their brains, no one could figure out why.
Only Desmond, carrying his plan, strode into the office with his head held high.
He knocked on the office door.
Lucas’s quick response came: “Come in.”
Desmond didn’t hesitate for a second and stepped inside.
In Lucas’s tone, he even heard a hint of impatience.
Clearly, the advice he had given before must have worked. Otherwise, Lucas wouldn’t be so eager to call him in.
Standing before Lucas, Desmond put on a serious face. “Mr. Carter, you wanted to see me?”
Lucas lifted his eyelids, right hand curled into a fist, pressing against his lips as he coughed lightly. “Desmond, the plan you mentioned before–have you refined it now?”
“Of course!” Desmond replied proudly.
Lucas fell silent,
He was starting to wonder if putting his hopes in someone like this was really reliable.
But truth be told, the few things Desmond had suggested yesterday had indeed worked.
Thinking of it, Lucas felt a stab of pain in his head.
What was wrong with people these days? Why did everyone seem to admire playboys like Desmond?
