"What?"
Olivia was still perplexed when she heard what Nicole said.
Nicole signaled Olivia to stop talking, then lay down there and pretended to be asleep.
Mrs. Bush came in, and she didn't dare to look up but just swept the room around. She didn't expect Olivia to be here. Fortunately, Samuel wasn't here now.
Nicole was still asleep.
Only then did Olivia understand what Nicole meant. She snorted coldly in her mind and said indifferently to Mrs. Bush, "Go clean that table."
Mrs. Bush quickly walked over.
To be honest, Mrs. Bush had not suffered much in these years of marriage. There were always many servants at home, so she did not need to do anything, let alone doing housework. Even when the life was not easy back then, Samuel and Nicole did not let Mr. and Mrs. Bush suffer much.
However, Mrs. Bush had to obey Olivia's order to do housework now, which made her awkward.
She walked over and didn't dare to look into Nicole's or Olivia's eyes at all. She lowered her head and wiped the table.
"Throw this away. I won't eat it anymore."
Olivia deliberately threw the banana onto the ground.
Mrs. Bush paused for a moment, then squatted down and picked it up unwillingly.
The banana was half-eaten and slimy. Mrs. Bush didn't wear gloves, so she had to directly touch the banana peel, which made her feel disgusting. However, she thought of her husband who was taken away, so she had no choice but to keep her temper and throw the banana into the garbage can.
Nicole coughed suddenly.
It was a perfect timing.
Olivia hurriedly stepped forward to help her up.
"Are you alright? How do you feel? Does it hurt? Melissa is really a bitch. How can she beat you like this! If I met her, I will make her feel sorry."
Olivia said in a loud voice that Mrs. Bush couldn't help but pause a second.
Mrs. Bush glanced at Nicole and saw her blood still oozing from the wound. The blood red looked very harsh.
Mrs. Bush knew what Melissa did to Nicole, but she always told herself that Melissa was measured. Melissa just disliked Nicole and gave her a mild punishment. However, Nicole looked very weak with a pale face, which made Mrs. Bush a little panic.
She was flustered and did not know what she should do now.
Nicole took a peek at Mrs. Bush and saw a hint of hesitation and struggle in her eyes.
In the end, this woman still had feelings for her.
If Mrs. Bush left this place now and did not plead for Melissa anymore, Nicole felt that she could let Mr. Bush off the hook. After all, they were her adoptive parents, and it was not easy for them to bring up her these years.
Olivia couldn't help but frown when she saw the way that Nicole looked at Mrs. Bush.
Nicole was really softhearted.
Olivia tugged at Nicole and whispered, "Are you in pain? Shall I call a doctor for you?"
Olivia knew that Mrs. Bush wanted to be alone with Nicole, so she had to create this opportunity for Mrs. Bush.
Nicole sighed and nodded without saying anything.
Olivia glanced at Mrs. Bush and talked to her in a low voice, "Hurry up to get the clean done and leave. This is an intensive care unit. Don't stay too long."
Mrs. Bush nodded and didn't say anything either.
After Olivia left, Nicole suddenly felt her throat itchy.
She coughed and struggled to get the cup of water, but it was too far away from her that she could not get it. She did know if Olivia did it on purpose.
Nicole looked at Mrs. Bush and asked, "Excuse me. Can you help give me that cup?"
Mrs. Bush paused for a moment without saying anything. However, she still walked over and handed the cup to Nicole.
"Thank you."
Nicole smiled and took the cup.
Mrs. Bush couldn't help but feel sorry when she saw Nicole's pale face.
She really wanted to leave right now. Melissa had hurt Nicole like this. Wasn't it a bad time for her to trouble Nicole now?
However, as soon as Mrs. Bush turned around, Melissa's face came in her mind.
That was her biological daughter!
She owed Melissa a lot these years. Now, Melissa had finally come back to her, and why can't Nicole make peace with Melissa and went easy on her?
Thinking about this, Mrs. Bush did not feel sorry for Nicole anymore.
Nicole kept looking at Mrs. Bush while drinking water. When she saw the ruthlessness flashing in Mrs. Bush's eyes, she eventually gave up all the hope.
Nicole laughed at her own foolishness in the mind.
It was too stupid that she still held out hope for Mrs. Bush.
Nicole smiled ironically.
She put down the cup of water and slowly leaned against the bed.
Nicole couldn't help but laugh coldly.
"Me? Why?"
"You are our daughter!"
"But do you treat me as your daughter?"
Nicole asked straightforward, looking into Mrs. Bush's eyes, which made Mrs. Bush somewhat breathless.
Mrs. Bush found that Nicole's eyes had become sharp and even fierce, which made Mrs. Bush afraid of looking straight at her.
Mrs. Bush averted her gaze and coughed to hide her unease.
"Why do you think that your father and I never treat you as our daughter? Didn't we worry about you when something bad happened to you and Samuel? Didn't we help solve the issues when you had an accident abroad?"
"All these happened before Melissa returned. Think about it. After Melissa came back, what did you do to me? What do you plan to do to Lucas and Zoe? You called Lucas a while ago and told him to go over. We all know what's in your mind, and please don't pretend that you don't know. I really didn't want to do anything against you, but you guys went too far. You even did bad things to the kids. You two are their grandparents, but do you really treat them as your grandchildren?"
Nicole felt extremely bad when this was mentioned.
She did not expect Mr. and Mrs. Bush to treat her as well as before, but at the very least, they should not intend to harm the four-year-old children.
Mrs. Bush was a little embarrassed.
"We did not plan to do anything. We just miss the children, so I asked them to visit us."
"Is that so?"
Nicole said slowly, elongating the words, but Mrs. Bush couldn't say anything.
The room went terribly quiet suddenly.
Mrs. Bush couldn't stand the oppressive atmosphere and said, "Will you let go of your father or not? Do you want me to kneel down and beg you?"
"I can't afford it, and I didn't get him into trouble. It was him who copied others' works, so he had to pay the price."
As soon as Nicole said this, Mrs. Bush burst into anger.
"Nicole, you are such an ungrateful person! Without us, you would have starved to death. Now, you send your father into prison to repay our kindness. Aren't you afraid that God will punish you?"
"No, I'm not afraid."
Nicole looked at Mrs. Bush, and the only warmth left in her heart was blown away by Mrs. Bush's rudeness.
Seeing that Nicole refused, Mrs. Bush broke the vase beside her and pointed the glass fragment at her neck artery.
"Let your father go, or I will die here today!"
