Samuel was stunned by this question.
He thought that Jason thought of Xander when he looked at Xander's paintings, but he didn't expect Jason to mention another topic all of a sudden.
"Second uncle?"
Samuel asked subconsciously.
He suddenly realized that Xander, Nicole's father, was the eldest son of the Don family, Mark was the third son, and Jason was the youngest son. However, it seemed that he had never heard of the second son of the Don family. No one even mentioned his name.
"This person got expelled from our family a long time ago, so long that we almost can't remember him. I even thought that our family only has three sons."
Jason smiled bitterly and smoked the cigarette. But the smoke caught in his throat, and he couldn't stop coughing.
Samuel gave him a glass of water.
Jason drank some water to suppress his cough. Then, he looked at the paintings on the wall and said, "Actually, my second brother likes painting, traveling, and photography just like Xander. He enjoys freedom more. By the way, they are twins."
Hearing this, Samuel was slightly stunned.
Twins?
He never thought of that.
Seeing that Samuel was surprised, Jason smiled and said, "According to genetics, everyone believes Nicole could give birth to twins because the Green family has such genes. But actually, the Don family has such genes as well. However, there aren't many twins in the Don family, so not many people know about it."
Samuel did not interrupt.
It was indeed somewhat unexpected, but it was not difficult to accept.
Indeed, if Nicole's family didn't have such genes, she might not have given birth to twins even if his family had such genes.
He couldn't help but think of the child that Nicole had miscarried.
It seemed to be a singleton.
Therefore, they had such genes didn't mean every pregnancy would be a twin pregnancy.
Samuel did not say anything, so Jason continued, "My parents were so happy to see the twins. My dad liked military life, and he wanted his son to be a soldier. Therefore, he was ecstatic when he got two sons. He raised them in person. Xander was calm and listened to him, but my second brother was rebellious, mischievous, and always disdained Dad's training."
"My mom thought it would be fine as long as one of the two sons could inherit Dad's career. Xander was calm and listened to Dad, so Dad had high expectations of him. On the other hand, Mom just wanted her second son to be happy, so she didn't force him to do anything he didn't like."
A trace of sadness flashed across Jason's face.
Samuel extinguished the cigarette in his hand that was about to burn out.
He looked at Jason and asked, "Was it second uncle who painted these paintings instead of Xander?"
Jason was slightly stunned. He didn't expect Samuel to ask this question. However, he shook his head and said, "Of course not. Xander is not a despicable person who would steal the fruits of other people's labor. These landscape paintings were painted by Xander, while the figure paintings were painted by my second brother."
Samuel was slightly stunned.
He remembered Nicole had mentioned that Xander mainly painted landscape paintings and rarely painted figure paintings. The only figure he had ever painted was Audrey.
Now, Jason's words surprised Samuel.
"He only did one figure painting for one person."
"Yes. Audrey, right?"
Jason looked at Samuel and smiled bitterly. "Do you really think that Xander broke up with Audrey because he had to join the army?"
"Did you mean Xander and second uncle fell in love with Audrey at the same time, and Xander quitted voluntarily?"
Samuel was pretty smart.
Jason had to admit that Samuel was smart.
"Mark, I, and everybody else of our family had thought so. I didn't know the truth until a woman who looks exactly like Audrey came to me today."
Samuel could guess it out.
"She is Sally Shaw, Nicole's aunt, Audrey's twin sister."
"Looks like you and Nicole know a lot."
Samuel asked in a low voice, "Uncle Jason, did you know about Sally's existence a long time ago?"
"No. I just knew about it today."
Samuel was stunned.
"Is that why Sally came to you?"
"Yes."
Jason nodded.
"Why would Sally bring this up after so many years?"
Samuel hit the nail on the head, but Jason dodged.
"Perhaps she wants to go back to the Shaw family. She said that she owes Audrey and has to say it out loud."
"It's been more than twenty years, right? Now she comes back to say that she owes Audrey and feels uneasy? It's too late. Uncle Jason, are you being stupid, or do you think I am stupid? Do you believe such a clumsy excuse? Or do you think I'll believe it?"
Samuel's words were very sharp.
However, Jason turned his head away and said in a low voice, "Believe it or not, I'm telling you the truth."
"Then why did you stop Nicole from going to Country F? Because second uncle is still alive? Is he in Country F?"
Hearing this, Jason's eyes widened. He stared at Samuel and said, "What nonsense are you talking about?"
"Nonsense? Uncle Jason, you wouldn't be so anxious if this wasn't about the Don family. You wouldn't stop Nicole from going to Country F if second uncle wasn't alive. Or was Sally here because she wants you to convince Nicole to go to Country F? Is this what she wants or what second uncle wants? How is second uncle doing in Country F now? Not bad, right? Otherwise, why didn't he come back when grandma passed away?"
Hearing Samuel's series of questions, Jason was a little dumbfounded.
He knew that he couldn't underestimate Samuel, but he didn't expect Samuel to be so smart. He couldn't follow Samuel and didn't even know how to explain and respond.
Suddenly, they heard a teacup fall to the ground out there. The two men in the studio were stunned for a moment then darkened their faces.
