"Hah."
So it was true—when someone was rendered utterly speechless, they really did just laugh.
A sarcastic chuckle escaped Alaric's throat as he ground his teeth together. "Is that the answer I was looking for?"
"What, out of all her boy toys, you were the favorite, and that's something to be proud of?"
"Hmm?"
Channing lounged on the sofa, raising an eyebrow with a roguish charm, fully displaying his innate aristocratic grace. "Your grandson snagged first place. That's definitely something to be proud of, right?!"
Alaric stared dead at him, took a deep breath, and raised his cane, ready to strike. "I'll beat the life out of you, you shameless little punk."
"Let's see you fool around on the outside again!"
"Hey!"
Channing easily blocked the cane, gently guiding the old man back down to his seat, a faint grin on his lips. "Why are you getting so mad that you're insulting yourself?"
"What?" Alaric blew at his beard, looking bewildered.
"If you call me a little punk, what does that make you?" Channing was bold, clearly teasing the old man about being the elder punk.
"You little... brat!"
Alaric made a move to get up and hit him again, but the steward quickly stepped in to calm him down, stifling a laugh. "Don't be angry, sir. The young master is just joking with you."
"Yeah, just joking." Channing chuckled, turning to the steward. "You can go attend to your work. I've got things handled here."
"Understood."
Knowing the grandfather and grandson needed to have a private chat, the steward smiled helplessly and tactfully stepped out of the room.
He then turned to the guards. "All of you, move to the front. No one comes close without orders."
The mansion was practically "leaking" secrets everywhere these days. Their conversation couldn't afford to be overheard.
—
Inside the room.
Alaric finally calmed down, his voice resonating deeply. "What exactly is going on between you and that casino girl?"
