In a large bedroom,

A woman was lying on her back, wrapping her body around a quilt. She opened her eyes and tried to move, but her bare arms brushed against a body, sending her butterflies in her stomach.

She cleared her view and turned around to look at him. A smile was on her face, which indicated that she was pleased.

She lifted her hand and earessed the face of the handsome man who was sleeping next to her. Her fingers brushed against his cheek.

His brows furrowed in response. She hurriedly moved her hand away. She looked at her hand, assuming he was uncomfortable because of the bandage.

She breathed deeply, inhaled his scent, and hugged him.

The man finally opened his eyes. She smiled and rested her head on his chest, saying,

“Good morning, Dane.”

He stared at the ceiling without responding to her. It was like he was in an inner conflict. Her smile faded when she observed him.

She moved and sat up, holding the quilt against her chest.

She hissed when she felt pain in her bottom. This man was an absolute beast last night.

“Dane”

She spoke again, hoping to get his attention.

Dane let out a sigh and turned his head to look at her. Her eyes became blurry when she noticed they were dark.

He sat up and leaned his back against the headboard of the bed. The quilt slipped down from his chest and rolled around his waist.

He grabbed a cigarette and lit it. He smoked to ease my mind.

“Did you regret last night?” she asked with a hope in her heart.

He gazed at her and shook his head. Her heart skipped a beat, feeling blissful. She loved this man and did not want to let him go.

“I was in my rut, Freya.”

She clenched her jaw. She knew it. She never forced him, though. He was the one who wanted to have sex with her, and he kept doing that till sunrise.

It enraged Freya. “So? That means you can have sex with anyone you want at that time? Why didn’t you just go for Ava instead of me?”

He puffed out smoke, looking away from her, and replied,

Freya felt a pang in her chest. Tears formed in her eyes and flowed down.

His lips paused when he heard her. His head turned to her, and he muttered,

“How many times have I told you not to talk about useless things? That mate thing is not for us.”

She glared at him and nodded at her. “You are right. Then what about last night? You were in rut; you needed your mate. Did you use me? Are you going to come get me when am in my heat?”

He turned away and stepped out of the bed after crushing the cigarette on the ashtray on the nightstand.

His naked body caused her cheeks to flush. She lowered her head.

Last night, she thought he had returned to her. But she was a fool in love.

“Stop hurting yourself. You know I will marry her no matter what. Just move on,” he reminded her and went to the bathroom.

She heard the sounds of the shower. He just ignored her as if she was nothing to him.
