“But here you are, a group from the Thompson family, cornering Ryan in his own home. You’re not just threatening him, you’re backing him into a corner. Mr. Thompson, you accuse the Blue family of being disgraceful, but I think you’re the ones who are being disgraceful and showing no manners at all.”
Wiona’s open sarcasm made every member of the Thompson family flush with anger and embarrassment.
They realized she had heard everything.
Naturally, their shame turned to rage.
Allen took a step forward, his fists clenched and a dark look flashing across his face. “You little brat, stop trying to stir up trouble.”
“This is a family matter between us and Ryan. It’s not your place to interfere.”
Ryan almost stepped in front of Wiona to shield her.
But she moved first, grabbing his wrist with her free hand.
She gave it a firm, reassuring squeeze.
She glanced back at Ryan and gave a slight shake of her head.
When she turned back to face them, her eyebrows were raised high.
“A family matter?”
She let out another sharp laugh.
“Yes, Mr. Thompson is Ryan’s uncle, and you all share blood with him. But this is the Blue family estate.”
“And tonight is my grandparents’ birthday celebration.”
“Mr. Thompson, you were just lecturing Ryan about family responsibility, yet you seem intent on ruining the Blue family’s party tonight.”
“So tell me, is Ryan’s last name Blue, or is it Thompson?”
“On Blue family property, you bring up Thompson family business and call it a ‘family matter’? What kind of logic is that?”
“Or does Ryan have to split himself in two to satisfy both sides?”
“Or is it that the Thompson version of ‘duty’ only applies to your family, and if Ryan refuses, you’ll force him to defy his elders and disrupt a birthday celebration?”
