Divorced and Pregnant My New Life with a Billionaire Drives My Ex Crazy novel Chapter 685

Ada could barely stop herself from lunging at Cecily. Regret gnawed at her. She wished she’d seen the signs from the start, instead of thinking she was being helpful by covering for them. Who did she think she was, anyway? She was absolutely nothing. Now it was clear. She’d gotten caught up in Cecily’s mess, and her gut twisted with remorse.

The other nannies didn’t hold back either. Their anger exploded all at once, voices overlapping.

“Cecily, so it was you all along?”

“Why would you do this to us? What did we ever do to deserve this?”

Someone broke down and started crying on the spot. It wasn’t just about losing their jobs with the Sullivan family. They were losing everything—their hopes and their future. Getting this job had been no small feat. They’d jumped through so many hoops to get here. Somewhere along the way, they’d all started believing their roles were untouchable. Even yesterday, when everything first unraveled, most of them hadn’t understood how bad things really were. They’d even dared to offend Wiona.

But after last night’s ordeal, reality hit hard. They’d spent hours in that tiny, dark room, blinded by harsh lights, unable to sit or sleep. They were forced to stand there, eyes wide open, wishing for anything but this. The memory stung so much, none of them ever wanted to revisit it.

Now, every single one of them hated Cecily with a passion. If Wiona and the rest of the Sullivan family hadn’t been there to keep things under control, there would have been a brawl right then and there. Even if the Sullivans forgave them, their reputations in Stonehill were done for. How could they not be furious?

Wiona wanted answers just as badly. She looked straight at Cecily.

“Why did you do it?” Her voice was cold, sharp. “Who told you to? How could you do something like this to a baby, not even three months old? Did you really think we wouldn’t find out? Or did you just not care what happened when we did?”

Wiona slammed her palm down on the arm of the couch. Derek, sensing her anger, started wailing. But this time, his cries sounded stronger than yesterday, and that gave Wiona a strange comfort. Maybe he really was getting better. She glanced at Conrad, who met her eyes. They both let out a breath, just a little lighter than before.

Cecily choked out a shaky answer. “I’ll talk. I’ll say everything. It was my boyfriend. He told me to do it. But I didn’t know it would hurt Derek. He said his family practiced alternative medicine, that his grandfather was some famous pediatric healer. He knew I worked here, that I was taking care of Derek, so he begged me to help him get a connection. He said it was just a tiny thing, just add a little powder to Derek’s milk each day and it would cause a small issue—nothing serious. He promised the family doctor wouldn’t figure it out, and then the family would have to turn to his people for help. That would be their chance. If things went well, his family would owe me. We’d be heroes, and then we could finally get married. It was my fault. I got greedy. I messed everything up.”

She started crying harder, slapping herself in the face. “But I tried the powder myself! I took it for days and nothing happened to me. That’s the only reason I had the nerve to try it with the baby. Sir, Madam, I’m sorry. Please, I’m begging you, please give me another chance. Please don’t kill me!”

Wiona stared at her, stunned. She couldn’t believe this was the real reason.

“Are you completely out of your mind?” she snapped. “You’re an adult. How can you compare what you took to what a tiny baby would get? You just did whatever he said? What if he told you to kill someone, would you do that too?”

Wiona’s fury only grew. She scooped up Derek and paced the room, fighting the urge to slap Cecily herself.
