Dawson and Tyler both scolded Ryan, making it clear how annoyed they were.

Ryan looked totally put out. “You guys know how my mom is. She always finds a way to get stuff out of me. I slipped up, okay?”

“Come on, give it a rest. I already told you what happened, didn’t I?”

“Plus, my mom isn’t going to spread it around.”

Mateo glanced down at his phone and frowned. “Enough, my dad just texted. He wants me back at the estate to explain everything.”

Tyler jumped in, “Did he say anything about bringing Wiona with us?”

Mateo paused, his expression uncertain. “He didn’t say anything about that.”

“The family isn’t really ready. This is a huge shock for them too. I mean, they’ve spent years looking and then all of a sudden, you show up.”

“So maybe... we should head back to Easton Heights this afternoon. Wiona, once everyone’s prepared, we’ll come back for you. How does that sound?”

Wiona quickly shook her head. “No rush, really. I’m already so happy just meeting you all. I don’t need to go back right away.”

She spoke gently, but her meaning was clear.

The Blue brothers weren’t clueless. They could tell she was avoiding going back.
