Denied by Destiny Trapped in the Shadows of the Mate Bond novel Chapter 400

“Catch them…we need them alive for questioning.” Hector orders out, as he coughs up blood. I tilt his body to the side only for him to wince out in pain from the stab wound.

“Let me help you.” Kaia’s hands are over his face, kisses placed upon his lips.

“No.” He orders out.

“Get me to the hospital.”

“Hector..”

“No Kaia…I’m not letting you trade places with me. You’ve already used it too much.” He gives a displeased groan.

My eyes move to the treeline as the row of hunters move backwards, they were leaving. Why were they leaving.

My eyes scan the meadows…what if…what if this was a diversion. A ruse to keep eyes off somewhere else.

“Josie!” I gasp out, my voice thick as it physically hurts to say her name due to the fear gripping me at my throat.

“Where is she?” Hector struggles to wheeze out as I’ve already started running towards the Alpha house. I don’t need to look to see Jaxon running next to me.

“Can you feel her?” I growl out alongside him.

“Yes she’s not left the grounds. I would have felt it.”

Our run slows to a cautious jog as we come to the alpha front door at the same time. It’s been kicked in, a forced entry.

Fuck, all I can hear is the pounding of my own heart rate in my ears.

I enter first, placing my arm out for Jaxon to step slowly. It could be a trap.

The atmosphere within the alpha house was eery and as I look into the hallway to find three dead bodies…I understand why.

It had been a diversion. They knew she was here and I had left her alone.

A growl leaves Jaxon as he pushes past me, his eyes scanning the dead bodies in his hallway.

“What happened?” Jaxon moves past us towards Doctor Abel where he takes the gun off him.

“Don’t take the guns, we still need them.” Doctor Abel declares with a tremble in his voice.

“They have retreated, they have gone.”

“What happened?” I whisper to Josie as I place her back down, my hands not willing to let her go.

“It was an ambush, they came for her.” Doctor Abel steps aside, his hands shaking down by his sides.

“He saved me, one of them had a clear shot…where’s Dad? What happened to Dad?”

I look to Jaxon who closes the vault door, cussing under his breath.

“Kit?” She whispers out to me, her teary eyes telling me she already felt his fall through the pack bond.

“He’s in the meadows…he needs the hospital. It doesn’t look good.”
