Denied by Destiny Trapped in the Shadows of the Mate Bond novel Chapter 219

Kaia POV

“Alpha Than is here?” This can’t be happening.

“Yes Luna.” Aubrey’s responds to me but her eyes are solely on her own Alpha.

Worry edged within them, they all knew…the entire pack knew. Was I the only one that didn’t know…I guess that is how amnesia works.

“Then grant access Aubrey. We surely should be on friendly terms with my ex husband.” I retort. My eyes flash to my wolf as a low growl escapes me. I adored Aubrey, she was like a mother to Hector, yet she also must have known.

I go to take a step through the office door when I am stopped.

“You aren’t going anywhere..” I am pulled back into Hector’s hard chest as he refuses to let me walk out of the office.

“Whatever they have to say they can say in here. He walks me back over to my desk, sitting me back down in my chair and remains stood behind me.

His fingers touch my neck creating sweet tingles that I try not to lean into, this damn mate bond.

I could curse the moon goddess, she deliberately created it so that it was hard to ignore.

To keep the mates strong, keep them together. Before I know it he has bent down, his scent invading my sense.

“We don’t go to them, they come to us.” His lips breathe into my ear and although I am still angry at him, I can’t help the way my strengthening wolf acts like putty in his hands.

The mate bond between us making me swoon as his lips kiss my mate mark sending an electrocution of shockwaves into my lower core.

He smiles as I look into his eyes. I wish he had told me from the start so that I didn’t look like a fool in front of the council.

I was ill-equipped and unprepared.

“Just don’t hide things from me, not if you want us to be a team.” I pin my eyes on him, holding his gaze. His face moves closer to mine, his lips just above mine…a gasp escapes me from his closeness.

I could think I was used to this pull to him but then he has a way of making the buzz so strong I found it difficult to pull back.

His lips kiss mine ever so gently, possessively but not in an aggressive way. Like the most tender of kisses, like he’ll kiss me always even on our last days together.

A soul’s kiss.

“Are we interrupting?” Alpha Orpheus’s clearing of his throat makes my eyes open.

Hector is in no hurry to end our kiss and neither am I.

“Yes but make it quick.” Hector’s eyes remain glued on mine.

“Frosty welcome..”

“We’ve not had the easiest of days so far.” Hector turns to the visitors, my eyes not ready to look Than in the face. Not now knowing.

“We heard, that’s why we are here…to see if we can help?”

“To help?” Hector responds.

“With Kaia’s arrest.” Than continues, my eyes darting to him.

My eyes roam upon him, upon the ex husband that tricked me into marriage, tricked me into something so awful, so evil…It is hard to stomach the fact that he is standing in front of me.

“You want to help me? Why?” I narrow my eyes, a growl escaping me.

His eyes move away from Hector and on to me. Something deep within me didn’t like him looking at me. I cringe at the mere thought of us potential being together…

“Honestly Kaia, I don’t know.”

I feel sick just thinking how naïve I must have been, how innocent.

That I took on face value that this male must have loved me enough for me not to wait and find my true mate.

That he must have plucked me out of college when I had escaped a father that pretended my childhood pack was about to be attacked.

That I was leaving for safety, yet I was entering into a situation that proved even more dangerous, even more deceitful.

“I bet you couldn’t believe your luck, how naïve…how trusting I must have been.” My voice takes on a sarcastic tone.

“Kaia, it wasn’t like that..”

“No Tell me Than, just how married were we?” I bitterly ask, being mindful not to look at Hector.

“What are you asking…” His eyebrows furrow together, pretend confusion on his face.

“I think you know what I am asking.”

Than considers me for a moment, his eyes looking at Hector before looking back at me.

“Yes Kaia…we were married.”

“GET OUT!” Hector travels the length of the room pushing Than against the wall by his throat.
