Dear Ex Wife, Please take me back novel Chapter 198

ATHENA

Six months later.

“Mummy, you look beautiful! You're the prettiest!” Rayen runs to my side, making Sloane snort, and Isabelle rolls her eyes.

“I bet we look like shags to you little King, don't we?” Sloane crosses her arms while tapping a foot probably trying to intimidate him but Rayen is his father's son, he doesn't get intimidated.

“No,” he says sweetly. “You both look like extras in my mum's fairytale.”

Sloane gasps, feigning offense. “Excuse me?!”

Isabelle chokes on her drink, trying to hold in her laugh. “Okay, that was brutal.”

I reach down and smooth Rayen’s little tux, trying not to laugh myself. “Rayen, be nice. They're my bridesmaids.”

He blinks innocently. “ But you're still the prettiest.”

“Am I?” I ask, kissing his forehead. “Just don’t say that in front of your granny or we’ll never hear the end of it.”

“I already did,” he shrugs. “She said I was just like Daddy.”

“I'm not babysitting you anymore!” Sloane says faking an offense.

Rayen's face softens as he rushes to her side, holding her hand. “Why not? I love you, Auntie Sloane.”

“I won't fall for your sweet talk!”

“Don't you like me?” Rayen gives her a smile and I just know he's forgiven.

“Just this once. I forgive you, therefore I like you.” Sloane lifts him as he kisses her cheek.

I shake my head as my nerves flutter in my stomach like butterflies in a blender.

But it’s not the bad kind. It’s the surreal kind, the kind that happens when you realize you’re about to walk down the aisle and marry the love of your life.

The doors are about to open. I can already hear the soft violin music drifting in. I take a breath, staring at myself in the full-length mirror.

The woman staring back is not the same broken girl who once feared the world.

She’s whole.

She’s loved.

She's fierce..

Sloane walks up beside me, her expression suddenly soft. “You ready, Mrs. King?”

I smile, blinking back the tears. “More than ever.”

The doors crack open, letting in a stream of golden light.

And just beyond the aisle, waiting like he’s been waiting his entire life, stands Alex.

We continue to walk through the song until, I’m standing in front of him.

He doesn't say anything at first. He just looks at me.

Like he’s memorizing every inch of me.

Like he’s trying to burn the moment into his soul.

“Hi,” I whisper, my voice trembling.

He leans in, brushing his lips close to my ear. “I have never seen anything more beautiful in my entire life.”

“Is that why you can't stop looking?” I tease in a whisper.

“I’ve never been able to stop looking at your beautiful face.”

The officiant clears his throat giving us both a gentle smile.

Making us turn toward him.

My maid of honor is Sloane and the best man is Luca. Something Ian is clearly not happy about but had to comply with.

Isabelle also keeps throwing looks here and there but I'm pretending not to notice. I actually find it cute that my best friend who has been against relationships since kingdom come is looking interested in the most red flag to ever walk the face of the earth.

“Dear beloved, we are gathered here today,” The officiant begins,
