Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja) novel Chapter 2264

She suddenly felt a pang of longing for her kids. She wanted to reach out to Athena, but remembering their agreement, she held back. Instead, she called Tyler, but he had no clue what Athena was up to either.

Lindsay felt even more torn, but Tyler seemed to pick up on her homesickness.

“I’ll arrange for you to get back home. A couple of days off won’t hurt.”

Lindsay’s eyes lit up instantly, a flush of excitement coloring her cheeks.

“Thank you, Tyler.”

True to his word, Tyler arranged a helicopter ride for Lindsay that very day.

By the afternoon, she was standing outside her own front door.

Opening the door, she heard her brother trying to calm the kids. His movements were a bit clumsy, not quite what you'd call graceful, but he managed to keep the kids in line.

Lindsay breathed a sigh of relief.

Hearing the door, her brother turned, surprise and joy lighting up his face.

“Sis!”

Lindsay smiled, and without missing a beat, got to work making formula and doing laundry.

Her brother hovered around, still in disbelief that she was back so soon; he had only gotten off the phone with her a short while ago.

From the kitchen, Lindsay noticed the plain, meager dishes on the table and sighed.

“Is this what you’ve been eating lately?”

Her brother’s eyes darted guiltily, and after a minute, he admitted he had ordered burgers for the kids.

“Sorry, Sis. It wasn’t the kids who wanted it. It was me.”

Burgers were a rare treat when their parents were alive, something they could rarely afford.

Having indulged in fine dining in Greenfield, Lindsay wasn't particularly craving burgers but watching everyone enjoy themselves warmed her heart.

Her brother, his mouth smeared with grease, noticed she wasn’t eating and looked guilty.

“Sis, is the money running out?”

It was a familiar worry from their past, when they’d often go without a meal, hoping Lindsay would bring something back from outside.

“No, we’re fine. I landed a great job in Greenfield. I’ve been dining on lobster and caviar, so burgers aren’t really my thing anymore.”

“Lobster and caviar, huh? What do they taste like?”

He continued munching on his burger, then lowered his head, mumbling, “I don’t really want to try them. I was just kidding.”

Lindsay’s heart ached a bit. Once you’ve got some money, you realize these things aren’t as expensive as they seemed. They used to go hungry so often, seeing such foods only on TV, believing they were beyond reach.
