Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja) novel Chapter 2232

Tonight, it felt like Maggie had thrown caution to the wind. She knew Marlon was already furious, yet she kept pushing, right there in front of everyone.

The others in the private room were itching to escape; after all, nobody wanted to be caught up in this mess. They all knew better than to get involved, but Maggie’s words came so fast, nobody had a chance to slip out.

Marlon’s gaze swept the room, his eyes holding a glimmer of amusement—or maybe it was just a shadow of a smile.

“If you don’t mind, I’d like a moment alone with Maggie.”

Marlon had always been the center of attention in this group. Whether for his personal prowess or the might of the Keller family, he was the one at the top. At his words, everyone immediately took the hint and hurried out, leaving just Maggie and Marlon in the room.

Marlon poured himself a drink, taking his time, as if he hadn’t noticed Maggie’s nerves at all.

“Go on, keep talking,” he said, his voice smooth and unbothered.

Now that they were alone, Maggie had nothing left to say.

Everything she’d blurted out earlier had been for the benefit of the crowd—to save face, to make sure people stopped gossiping about her being dumped. She’d hoped to shift everyone’s attention to the Keller family’s illegitimate daughter instead.

But now, with just Marlon here, Maggie fell silent—until something came flying at her. She jerked her head aside just in time. It was a bottle.

“Maggie, I really underestimated you,” Marlon said, his tone icy.

Sweat beaded on Maggie’s forehead. Her fists clenched at her sides.

“Did I say anything wrong? Marlon, we’ve known each other for years. You gave up on me so easily—you make me feel like all my devotion was for nothing.”

All that devotion, huh? Marlon almost laughed. Maggie had never been all that devoted to him.

He stood and walked over, slow and deliberate.

“Maggie, I made myself clear in my last message. We’re done. If you keep playing games like this in front of me, you might not live to see another sunrise. Don’t believe me? Try it.”

Maggie’s back went cold with fear. She bowed her head quickly, unable to meet his eyes.

He smirked. “Do I look like I need your money?”

“Then what do you want?”

Marlon was in no mood for games. He’d hoped for a quiet night out, maybe a few drinks, but Maggie had already ruined that. On top of it all, he hadn’t even had dinner yet, and his stomach was starting to complain.

“Forget the money. Buy me dinner.”

Athena hesitated just a moment, then nodded.

She picked a little roadside café, the kind of place Marlon usually wouldn’t give a second glance. He eyed the place with obvious distaste. “This is where you’re taking me?”

The sign above the door read “Hearty Stew House.” What kind of place was this? The food looked cheap—hardly more than twenty bucks for a whole meal. Was Athena really this stingy? The fender-bender would have cost her thousands.

Athena had already taken a seat, looking perfectly content. Her expression said plainly: eat if you want, or don’t—it’s your call.
