Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja) novel Chapter 2185

“Huh?”

As soon as the words left his mouth, Tyler dropped his gaze and clutched his mug so tightly his knuckles whitened.

“Is she seeing anyone else now?”

Bert had been keeping an eye on Athena lately. After all, she was the woman bold enough to play his best friend like a fiddle.

“No. She’s just landed a supporting role in some TV drama. Didn’t her agency blacklist her a while back? She’s got no decent offers now, just bit parts that barely last three episodes.”

“Oh.”

Tyler’s response was slow, as if someone were pressing down on his throat, squeezing the sound from him.

Bert couldn’t help but wonder if Tyler was seriously thinking about getting back together with Athena. Before he could say anything, Tyler spoke up, “Aren’t you producing a show right now? Give her the second female lead.”

Bert slapped a palm to Tyler’s forehead, half-expecting to find a fever—what other explanation was there for this sudden bout of insanity?

Tyler knocked his hand away and stared down into his mug.

“Tyler, back in the day, if anyone tried to mess with you like that, they’d be long gone. Now you’re letting her walk all over you, and you’re offering her a handout on top of it?”

To put it bluntly, it was pathetic.

And Tyler was never the type to be pathetic.

“If I say give her the part, then give it to her.”

“No way. You’ve got your own project coming up, don’t you? If you really want to win her over, just hand her the lead. Isn’t that easier?”

Tyler’s eyes clouded with bitterness. He fiddled awkwardly with the rim of his mug.

“I tried. She doesn’t want it.”

Not even as a stand-in. To her, he was just a nobody now.

Worse than that, actually. He was someone she probably hated—after all, he’d once stomped on a photo of her first love right in front of her. She must loathe him by now.

“Good. You should. Women like her—honestly, she thinks she’s God’s gift or something.”

With that, Tyler flung aside his bottle of mineral water, cracked open a beer, and drank straight from the neck.

“Tyler…”

Bert called his name, then grabbed a bottle himself. “Fine, I’ll drink with you. I’m telling you, get drunk a few more times, you’ll forget all about her. Alcohol’s great for erasing memories. After a few rounds, you won’t even remember her name.”

Tyler drained half the bottle in one go. The alcohol hit him fast, and suddenly his eyes brimmed with tears.

“Athena’s a damn curse. I should blacklist her all over again, ruin her for good, make her—”

“Make her bounce from man to man, living off scraps, begging for favors. That kind of woman… ha.”

“She’s got plenty of faults, but even so, don’t you think that’s going too far? You should apologize.”

“Christ! Are you drunk or not?”
