Jackson stood in his spot for a moment. He stared at her and did not respond to her at all. He put on a pair of sunglasses.
Unfortunately, Tiffany was completely oblivious to his strange behavior. She walked to him and held his arm. “I’ve sent the money to you. Did you receive it? How many days do you plan on staying? I won’t be able to stay with you if you’re planning to stay for a long time. I can only for two days before I have to return for work.”
Jackson pursed his lips and said coldly, “Don’t wait for me then.” After he finished speaking, he went to the ticketing booth.
At this moment, Tiffany finally realized something was not right. She jogged up to him. “What’s up with you? You seem unhappy.”
He paused for a moment before saying, “Does it matter if I’m happy? It doesn’t really matter as long as you’re happy.”
Alarm bells immediately rang in Tiffany’s mind. “Wait a minute! What do you mean? Why does it sound like I’ve angered you? You’re a guy. Do you have to sulk like a girl? Just tell me what’s wrong, and we can fix it.”
Jackson really was not in the mood to talk about what’s wrong in a crowded airport. Moreover, he was not a quarrelsome person. He did not want to fight with her and only wanted to calm down before he spoke to her. It would be difficult for him to control his emotions when he was angry. The final result might not be his desired outcome. Therefore, he said, “It’s nothing.”
Tiffany did not pursue the matter. However, her face turned slightly pale, uncertain of what had happened. They were fine on the phone last night. What changed?
The pair sat next to each other on the plane but barely spoke. Jackson closed his eyes and napped. He did not even look at Tiffany.
Tiffany tugged on the corners of her dress uneasily. She could not figure out what he was thinking and did not know what to say. She felt as though ants were crawling and nibbling on her heart, it was torturous and uncomfortable.
...
Two hours later, the plane finally landed. Jackson disembarked from the plane, and Tiffany trailed behind him.
From Tiffany’s point of view, Jackson was the one who had initiated things with her. He was always hot for her and would probably stick to her every second of the day if he could. Now, he had suddenly become cold and distant. For this reason, the first thought that came to her mind was that he had lost interest. He probably realized he had been too hasty in pursuing her. There was a possibility that he was tired of her, like his ex-girlfriends. Those promises and sweet words were probably nothing more than a means he used to trick women…
After all, thanks to her horrible past, marriage would only be seen as her way of social climbing. Nevertheless, she did not resent him at all and would tell everyone that she had asked for the breakup and that it was a mutual decision. It was not easy for her to speak out, and yet, he did not provide her with a clear answer. At this point, she really could not figure out what he was thinking.
When they arrived at the hotel, Jackson helped her with her bag after they got down from the car and walked ahead of her. She jogged after him, and when they arrived at the front desk, she automatically pulled out her identification card, fumbling just a little.
After the registration, they walked into the elevator. There were people around them so Tiffany kept her mouth shut. When they arrived in their room, she finally lost control and blurted out, “Can we talk now? You don’t need to be apprehensive. Just say what’s on your mind.”
Jackson silently adjusted the air-conditioning in order to conceal his frustration. Then, he sat down on the couch and replied, “Let’s put aside the amount of time we’ve known each other, and start counting from the time we started dating. It’s been a few months now, hasn’t it? Am I not important to you? Is it that hard to love me?”
Tiffany could not understand him and felt even more aggrieved. “What do you mean? Why are you saying this?”
