Dangerous Love: You Are My One and Only Bride novel Chapter 336

Her level of disappointment surprised her. Why should she be feeling disappointed? She shouldn’t be holding out on hope in the first place. She should continue on as she always had — stay close yet keep a distance at the same time, right?

At lunchtime, a distinctive figure appeared at the office entrance. The employees who had been preparing to go out for lunch, stopped in their footsteps and gawked. This was because Mark was too attractive. Most importantly, he was holding an exquisite thermal lunch box.

The new company mostly consisted of new staff. Most of them had never seen Mark, so they were making guesses at whose “noble husband” he was. When he arrived at Arrianne’s desk, everyone finally came to their senses, sighed and slowly dispersed.

“What are you doing here?” Arianne’s current mood could be described as shock at this point.

“Lunch time,” he did not say too much, and opened up the thermal lunch box. Then, he pushed a fork and knife into her hands. The thermal lunch box was packed with stew, grilled chicken and vegetables. The very sight of them would make anyone salivate with hunger.

Arianne didn’t say very much either. She ate a small portion under his watchful eye, and left a considerable amount of leftovers.

“I asked Mary to make this. Does it not suit your tastes?” he asked with a frown.

“It’s not that… I just think that it’s too bland. There’s no need to bring food for me at the office. I can eat at the canteen.” She wouldn’t dare dream of having him visit her at the office to bring lunch for her every day. If he wanted to do it purely for show, there was no need. He only had to ask someone to send her lunch over. That would be enough to garner praise.

“It wasn’t my idea.” Mary insisted. “Don’t be ungrateful,” Mark replied with a deadpan expression as he packed up the lunch.

Arianne’s frustrations returned, like a flood released from the gates of a dam. She could no longer hold herself back. “When have you become so obedient to Mary? You’re the master of the Tremont household. Mary is still a maid at the end of the day. You don’t have to show off. I’ve only sung your praises in front of everyone else, that you’ve been very good to me and that you’re pretty much perfect. If I ever say anything vicious about the man who’s brought me up, I’d be considered an ingrate!”

Eric stepped out from his office, having overheard their voices. “Mark? What are you doing here? Are you fighting?”

Mark’s expression sank. He turned around and left without another word.

Eric watched Mark walk away, as if in deep thought. “Pregnant women certain have short tempers… He was nice enough to give food for you, but you angered him into leaving. However, I can understand. That’s just how it’s like to be pregnant, you’d get emotional all of a sudden.”

Tiffany chuckled. “A certain someone won’t let me tell you this, but we’re best friends. I’ll betray him then. Mark called me before I came to pick you up, and asked me to take care of you. He’s also asked me to try to stay back at night and keep you company because he’s going to be busy over the next few days and can’t take care of you. I never thought that he’d ever speak up to ask for help. I agreed on account of the fact that he had bought me a car.”

Arianne fell silent, unsure of what to say. If she and Mark could have had such detailed communication in the past, perhaps things wouldn’t have been so bad between them. However, he had never opened his heart to her ever since she was a child.

After dinner, Tiffany began swiping her phone out of boredom and suddenly found news on Mark. She opened it and felt worried after reading through it. “Ari, I think Mark’s international companies are facing bankruptcy and may be closed down for good. I think he’s asked me to keep you company because he’s gone out of the country to take care of the aftermath.”

Arianne had never heard of words like “bankrupt” or “closed down for good” associated with Mark. “Is that true? He personally took over those international companies three years ago. Logically speaking, they should have pretty solid foundations. How could they close down?”

Tiffany handed the phone over to her. “I’m not sure. It wasn’t fully described in detail in the news. Mark didn't give much of an elaboration during his interview. This was an estimation from the media. It’s suspected that his reputation is damaged. The exact reason isn’t completely stated. You should ask him when he comes back.”

Arianne’s heart was beginning to lose its grip. Mark had always been mindful of public opinion. How could he possibly have allowed his reputation to falter?
