Derek's breathing hitched. "You..."
"Look, I'm not used to comforting people," Barnaby said bluntly, "but you've just been having a ridiculously awful streak lately! Wake up and smell the coffee—you're just destined to have no heirs."
Barnaby called this comforting him? This was comforting? What kind of psychotic comfort was this?
Derek staggered out of the elevator, shaking with fury.
Right after he left, Hull returned and ran into Barnaby in the elevator. "What did you say to him this time? He looked furious."
Hull had seen Derek trip and fall while getting into his car, looking completely defeated and unhinged.
"I didn't say much," Barnaby shrugged. "Just that Susanna kept insisting she wasn't his daughter, and he got mad!"
"I told him to look on the bright side. Since his bloodline is already dead in the water, he should just accept reality."
"I was literally trying to comfort him, and he had the nerve to glare at me!"
Speaking of it, Barnaby actually sounded quite indignant.
Hearing Barnaby claim he was 'comforting' Derek made Hull and Silas exchange a very complicated look.
All the way until they stepped out of the elevator, Hull didn't say another word to him.
Watching Hull stride purposefully into the room with an imposing aura, Barnaby turned to Silas. "What did I say wrong?"
"You didn't do anything wrong," Silas patted him on the shoulder. "Your comforting skills are top-tier. You should definitely comfort him more next time!"
Barnaby paused.
Why did that sound so sarcastic?
By the time Hull returned, Susanna had finished signing her documents. Seeing him, she pouted.
Hull closed the distance between them, his hands gripping the soft curves of her waist as he leaned in and kissed her!
"Mmph... what are you doing!" Susanna gasped.
Hull effortlessly lifted her and set her on the desk, parting her legs so they wrapped around his lean waist.
"We probably won't be leaving Litamark for a while. The manor has been prepped. We'll move in tomorrow."
"Huh?" Susanna blinked. "Weren't you planning to head back to Ferrowland once things wrapped up here?"
"Can you even leave right now?" Hull asked smoothly.
Leave? Of course she couldn't leave right now. Her mother was here in Litamark!
