"I was just worried someone might not let you come home," Sean said, the target of his words perfectly clear to everyone.
Evander didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "You worry too much. Before we're married, I will respect 's wishes."
"You'd better," Sean huffed, then added a warning. "Your public name now is Mr. Evander, but for the engagement, you need to figure out whether to use Calvin or Howard. You need a plan."
Evander gave a slight nod, watching as the father and daughter entered the villa.
...
Lilith was at a lounge with Karin and three other colleagues, celebrating in a private room that buzzed with excitement.
"Lilith, is the guy Ms. Sterling is getting engaged to really your cousin?" a female colleague asked curiously.
Lilith paused for a second, then nodded. "Yeah, he is."
"Then your family must be more than just well-off, right? To marry the Rayburn heiress, he'd have to come from a top-tier family."
A male colleague sitting with Karin chuckled. "Goes without saying, doesn't it? The Rayburns are the richest family in Eldermere City. Not just anyone can marry their daughter."
"I'm so envious. I wish I'd been born into a rich family too."
"Maybe in your next life, haha."
"..."
Lilith looked down at the skewers in her hand, her appetite gone. She suddenly realized that she still hadn't truly fit in with her colleagues.
Karin, sensing her mood, tried to change the subject. "Hey, why don't we play some cards?"
"So generous! A true big shot!" The male colleague gave her a thumbs-up, immediately taking a picture of the bottle to post on social media. He couldn't help but think that one bottle cost him three months' salary.
The two female colleagues exchanged another look and made an excuse to go to the restroom. Once they were out of the room, they couldn't hold back their complaints. "I didn't notice it at first, but she's such a show-off. She thinks she's so great just because she has money."
"I noticed a long time ago. If it weren't for the fact she helped me grab lunch once, who would want to hang out with her?"
"And she acts all innocent and cute. Ugh, I've seen that pampered princess act a million times!"
Their conversation by the bar was overheard by other colleagues from their department who happened to be there too, including Judd.
"Aren't they from our department?" someone from the management team asked. A person next to them nodded. "Yeah. I just saw on social media that Karin and the others are at this lounge. Oh, and Lilith is with them, too."
Judd's movements paused for a fraction of a second, but he just took a sip of his drink, his face impassive, as if nothing and no one in the world concerned him.
