Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 580

Loretta hesitated for a moment before looking up at Elliot and shaking his hand politely. “H-hello.”

“Your hands are as lovely as you are,” Elliot complimented her smoothly, releasing her hand quickly so as not to seem forward.

Flustered by the praise, Loretta quickly withdrew her hand. “No, I’m… I’m not as lovely as you say.”

“I think you are. Anyone who says otherwise has no taste,” Elliot said, pulling out his phone. “Since we’ve met here, it must be fate. Would you mind if I got your number? We could be friends.”

Loretta glanced at Charlotte for guidance.

Charlotte patted her shoulder reassuringly. “It’s alright.”

After they exchanged numbers, Elliot was about to say more when Evander cut him off. “Are you here to do business or to hit on girls?”

“Don’t be so crude. Can’t I make a new friend? I’ve been working my tail off for you for days. You owe me a little freedom.”

Evander chuckled. “Don’t you have enough women on your WhatsApp already?”

“…”

Elliot scoffed, then pulled Evander aside. “Are you trying to sabotage me on purpose?” he hissed.

Evander put his hands in his pockets, looking perfectly serious. “She’s a Rayburn cousin. If you just play with her feelings and dump her, how am I supposed to explain that to the Rayburns?”

“When have I ever just played with someone's feelings? You think I’m you?”

“When did I ever—”

“You have an ex-wife. I don’t!”

Evander was speechless.

Her lashes fluttered down as she leaned her head against his shoulder. She let his fingers play with the hair at her temple and whispered, “You’ve never complimented me.”

Evander paused, his eyes full of adoration as he looked at the crown of her head. “I’ve complimented you in my mind.”

“What did you say?”

“That you’re beautiful.”

Charlotte looked up at him. “Huh?”

“I had lost my memories, so on our wedding night, when I thought I was seeing you for the first time, I knew I would be drawn to you.”

And yet, because of a phantom ‘first love’ he had deluded himself into believing in, he had allowed himself to be torn. Ultimately, his avoidance and coldness had led to their separation. He had come so close to missing his chance with her, to losing her for good.
