Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 578

Watching the tense standoff, Charlotte felt a wave of confusion. She couldn't tell if they were friends or foes. After a moment, Wesley coolly brushed his hand away. “Cross my line, and you become my enemy.”

He turned to Charlotte. “Let’s go.”

Charlotte snapped back to reality and followed him toward the main hall.

Shane watched their retreating backs, his eyes dark as he unconsciously rubbed his fingertips together.

When they arrived, the living room was already buzzing with activity. Quincy, Susy, and Loretta were all there, as was Evander.

“Ah, Lottie’s here.”

It wasn't hard to see that Mr. Rayburn was in high spirits. He set his teacup down and continued, “The Rayburn family hasn't had much to celebrate lately. Apart from Caleb's new project, this engagement, once it's official, will be another wonderful piece of news.”

Caleb smiled gently. “Of course.”

“Why isn’t your father here?” Susy asked. “How could he miss something so important?”

Wesley took a seat opposite Evander, who met his gaze with a knowing smile. “It’s fine if my father-in-law isn’t present. Having my brother-in-law here is honor enough for me.”

Wesley’s brow furrowed, but he didn’t reply.

Both Susy and Mr. Rayburn were taken aback. It was just an engagement, not a marriage, yet he was already throwing around titles like ‘father-in-law’ and ‘brother-in-law.’

Mr. Rayburn, however, didn’t seem to mind. As a witness to the agreement, he had already instructed Susy to start planning the engagement party for Charlotte. The task would normally have fallen to Charlotte's mother, Laurinda, but given her current condition, she wasn't able to manage such an event.

Evander opened the folders. “One is for the development rights to Seabreeze Isle. The other… I would like to deliver to my father-in-law personally.”

“The development rights to Seabreeze Isle?” Susy exclaimed in astonishment. The entire business world knew the immense potential of that region. For Evander to simply give the development rights to the Rayburn family as an engagement gift was unheard of. Even the biggest players in the country wouldn't part with such an asset so easily.

Mr. Rayburn’s expression tightened slightly, clearly shaken by the sheer weight of the gift. He looked at Evander with a new, probing intensity. The Chase family’s power in Southeast Asia was undeniable, but Seabreeze Isle wasn't in their territory—it was in Crestmont. As far as he knew, those development rights had originally belonged to the Sutherlands. For Evander to have secured them so soon after arriving in Eldermere City spoke volumes about his capabilities.

Caleb, however, wasn't surprised. He just smiled. “That’s quite a grand gesture, Mr. Evander. Are you sure you’re willing to part with it?”

Evander smiled back. “We’ll be family soon. There's no need to talk about being willing or not.”

Besides, if he wasn't willing to make a grand gesture, how could he help his wife solidify her position?
