Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 565

Charlotte walked up to the car and tapped on the window.

Evander unlocked the doors. She pulled one open and slipped inside. The crisp, cool scent of his cologne, mixed with a hint of alcohol, washed over her.

She frowned. "You've been drinking?"

"Just one glass," he said, his voice low and husky.

Charlotte pushed her semi-dry hair back. "Your cancer's cured, and now you're back to smoking?"

He let out a soft laugh and snapped the unlit cigarette in his hand. "I haven't been smoking."

"Then what are you doing out here in the middle of the night instead of sleeping?"

"I wanted to see you." His gaze fell to the damp ends of her hair. "You didn't dry your hair?"

"Well, I saw your message and..." She trailed off, turning her face away. "You're the one who can't sleep at night."

A deeper smile touched Evander's eyes as he leaned in closer. The distance between them vanished in an instant. "It's hard to sleep when you're alone."

His scent grew stronger, and Charlotte's mind went blank. "You've had too much to drink."

"You know my tolerance," he said, looking into her eyes, a smile playing on his lips. "One glass is hardly enough to get me drunk."

Her eyelashes fluttered, and she subconsciously licked her dry lips.

That simple movement was enough to make his heart race, and his gaze on her grew scorching hot.

Charlotte's cheeks warmed. Just as he was about to lean in closer, she whispered, "The security cameras will see us."

Evander's Adam's apple bobbed. He didn't miss the subtle shift in her expression. "I have tinted windows."

The smile in his eyes gave way to a flicker of sadness. Just as he was about to pull his hand back, she spoke again. "But... your performance so far has been acceptable. So... I'll reluctantly agree to give you more one-on-one time."

It was as if someone had hit pause on Evander. He looked up in disbelief, his deep eyes suddenly erupting with a brilliant light, like stars catching fire. The surprise was dazzling.

His throat moved, and his voice was tinged with a raw hoarseness. "Really?"

Charlotte maintained a sliver of composure, gently pushing him to create some space. "If you didn't hear me, then never mind."

"I heard you!" Evander immediately grabbed her wrist, his grip not tight, but filled with a desperate need to fuse her hand with his own. "You said you'd give me more one-on-one time with you."

He deliberately emphasized the words "one-on-one time," his elation almost spilling over.

Charlotte felt a little flustered under his intense gaze. She turned her head away and mumbled, "That's only because you've been relatively well-behaved lately."
