Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 540

Was something about to happen?

After making the call, Kate returned from the salon. Having made her arrangements, she seemed unburdened by worry and went straight to Hulda’s bedroom.

Hulda, wrapped in a bath towel, opened the door. Seeing Kate, her expression stiffened slightly. “Oh, it’s you.”

“Who were you expecting? Quincy?” Kate’s question made Hulda’s face drain of color, her fingers tightening on the doorknob. She forced herself to remain calm and stepped aside. “I’m not sure what misunderstanding you have, but come in and we can talk.”

“No need. The housekeeper is napping and Dad’s not home, just like yesterday,” Kate said, ignoring Hulda’s pale face. Her eyes swept over the still-damp towel Hulda was wearing, a mocking smile on her lips. “I guess it makes sense. My father’s getting old, unable to give you what you want, so your restless eyes turned to someone younger, didn't they?”

“Kate, what nonsense are you spouting?”

“Don’t deny it.” The memory of her own suffering fueled Kate’s anger, making her more aggressive. “I heard you moaning. Aren’t you disgusted with yourself? Seducing your own stepson. Have you no shame? Does your own son know about this?”

Hulda’s hand flew out, slapping Kate hard across the face. “Shut up!”

Seeing that she’d hit a nerve, Kate laughed and slapped her back without hesitation. The two women began to fight viciously, right in the hallway, their appearances becoming disheveled.

The commotion brought Quincy running. When he saw them, he rushed forward and pulled Kate away. “Are you insane?”

Kate stumbled, nearly falling down the stairs but catching herself on the railing at the last second. Her makeup was a mess, but her eyes were bloodshot as she glared at them. “You’re my own brother, and you betray me for this woman?”
