"No, of course not."
Charlotte shook her head. "I told Mr. Lowe I didn't feel well, and he let me leave. Just as I was walking out, I happened to run into Mr. Evander, and that's when I lost consciousness. When I woke up, I was alone in a hotel room. I asked the staff later and found out it was Mr. Evander who brought me there."
"You… you liar! That's not what happened!" Mrs. Lowe was incredulous that Charlotte could weave such a detailed and plausible story. "Do you think the security cameras didn't capture you leaving last night?"
At the mention of surveillance, Charlotte's expression remained perfectly calm.
She had been lucid for a while last night, long enough to know that Evander had already ordered his people to edit out any footage of them together. Even if Mrs. Lowe searched now, she wouldn't find the complete recording.
Kate was speechless, fuming with a mixture of anger and frustration, but she couldn't force Charlotte to admit the truth. After all, she was the one who had given Tobias the drugs, and knowing his personality, he would have definitely used them.
Unfortunately, her scheme had backfired spectacularly. Not only had it failed, but Charlotte was now flatly denying anything had happened.
"Enough!" Sean's voice boomed. "My daughter has told her side of the story. As for why she suddenly fainted after having dinner with you, I haven't even begun to question you about that, yet you have the audacity to come here and interrogate her?" He was furious. Fainting after a meal? The coincidence was too great.
"Sean, you'll regret this!" Mrs. Lowe pointed a trembling finger at him, her glare sweeping over them all. "Just you wait. I will not let this go!"
She stormed out in a rage.
Kate shot Charlotte a look loaded with meaning, but her eyes met Charlotte's calm, steady gaze. Unnerved, Kate didn't dare say another word and hurried away, afraid of revealing her own involvement.
Charlotte's hands, hidden at her sides, clenched into fists. From the moment Tobias had mentioned their "family" connection, she knew Kate was behind this.
"Lottie, you did hit Tobias, didn't you?" Wesley, who had been silent until now, suddenly broke into a small smile.
Sean froze. "What?"
Charlotte was equally surprised. "Brother, how did you know?"
