Meanwhile, in Eastport Village.
Zoe was applying makeup at her vanity when the door was thrown open. Two white bodyguards entered and stood aside as Neely strode in, his face a thundercloud.
She put down her lipstick and smiled casually. "What's with the long face? Did something not go your way?"
Neely stopped behind her, his hands resting on the back of her chair. He leaned down, his eyes locking with hers in the mirror. "That's not the question you should be asking."
Her smile faltered. She met his gaze in the reflection. "What do you mean?"
"You can't possibly be unaware of what's happening," he said, his hand lightly brushing her neck. "This shouldn't be your first reaction."
Before she could respond, his hand shot out and clamped around her throat.
The sudden lack of air sent Zoe into a panic. She struggled violently, managing to break his grip. "Neely, are you insane?"
*SLAP!*
The sound echoed through the room.
The force of the blow sent her stumbling against the vanity, scattering cosmetics across the floor. She clutched her cheek, stunned, staring at the man who had never laid a hand on her before.
"You… you hit me?"
Neely grabbed her by the hair and slammed her down onto the vanity, forcing her to look at her own pathetic reflection. His eyes were vicious. "Have I ever treated you poorly? I gave you the best of everything, and this is how you repay me? By betraying me? If I hadn't taken pity on you, paid for your plastic surgery, and sent you abroad, do you think the Donovans and the Rayburns would have ever let you live down what you did?"
Pain shot through Zoe’s scalp, but the facade was broken. She could see the murderous rage in his eyes, and she no longer cared to pretend. "Pity me? Neely, don't try to paint yourself as a saint. You know this face better than anyone. You never once asked if I wanted it. You kept me around because of this face, didn't you? You say you love me, but you just used me as a stand-in for your filthy fantasies! You think Finnick Vinterberg knows his father is a pervert with a mother complex?"
