Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 456

The yacht accelerated into open water before the anchor was suddenly dropped, sending a violent jolt through the vessel. A collective gasp rose from the guests as wine glasses slid off tables and the crystal chandeliers swayed precariously.

Charlotte nearly lost her footing, bracing herself against a shuddering table. Amidst the chaos, staff and security tried to maintain order, but the once-joyful crowd was now filled with confusion and alarm. She scanned the room but couldn’t see Norene or Finnick Vinterberg anywhere.

Suddenly, a hand pulled her behind a pillar. When she looked up, she met Evander’s urgent gaze. “Didn’t I tell you not to leave my side?”

Charlotte’s mouth opened. “You knew about this all along, didn’t you?”

“I told you not to come.”

“And what about you?” she shot back.

Evander’s eyes locked on hers. “Do you care whether I live or die?”

Charlotte was speechless.

Another violent lurch shook the yacht as the massive anchor scraped against rocks on the riverbed. It felt as if the vessel could capsize and sink at any moment. She stumbled, falling into Evander’s arms. He held fast to the pillar with one hand while keeping the other securely around her. The air filled with the sound of children crying and the panicked shouts of adults.

When the yacht finally settled, everyone rushed to the windows. There was no land in sight. The vessel was motionless, stranded in the middle of the river.

“What’s happening? Why have we stopped?”

“Is there something wrong with the ship? Call for help!”

“I don’t have a signal!”

“Me neither!”

The brief calm shattered as panic set in again. Just then, the large screen on the stage lit up once more. Neely Vinterberg appeared, a playful smirk on his face. The polite host from the beginning was gone, replaced by a man who no longer bothered with pretense.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I apologize for informing you this way, but this may be our last chance to see one another.”

Charlotte stared at the screen. “But there’s no signal. How is he…?”
