Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 454

Two days later, the Vinterberg-Lennox engagement party was held on a luxury yacht docked at the harbor. Though the guest list was exclusive, it included some of the most renowned business magnates in Riverspire City. The shoreside parking lot was a sea of luxury cars, and guests in glamorous attire boarded the yacht as if flocking to a grand gala.

The Lennoxes stood with the newly engaged couple at the gangway, greeting guests with warm smiles and accepting their blessings. “Watch your step as you board,” they’d say graciously.

“Mrs. Lennox, this must be your new son-in-law,” a wealthy socialite, a longtime acquaintance, said after handing over an envelope. She sized up Finnick Vinterberg. “Mr. Vinterberg is quite a catch. Your daughter is a lucky woman.”

Mrs. Lennox’s smile faltered for a second before she recovered. Before she could reply, Finnick offered a polite smile. “You’re too kind.”

“Not at all, it’s just…” The socialite noticed Norene Lennox’s stony expression, and her own face grew awkward. “Um, well…”

Before she could say more, the middle-aged man beside her pulled her away. “Alright, dear, let’s save the pleasantries for later. We should board and not hold up the line.”

“But… it’s a happy occasion. Why isn’t the bride-to-be smiling?”

“That’s none of your business.”

Norene clutched her bouquet tightly, biting her lip in silence.

Finnick Vinterberg leaned in close, his expression unchanged, and whispered so only she could hear, “Can’t manage a smile? Is this your idea of cooperation?”

Instantly, Norene forced a smile onto her face. It looked more painful than a grimace, but it was better than nothing. Mrs. Lennox, watching her daughter, caught the flash of menace in Finnick’s eyes before it vanished. Her own smile froze, and a sense of unease settled over her.

Charlotte parked her car and got out.

“I can’t believe Mr. Howard is here.”

“Forget Mr. Howard, even the Carstairs family was invited. It’s just an engagement, and they’ve invited half the city’s elite.”

Charlotte paused, looking in the direction of the voices.

Sure enough, Evander and Natalie were emerging from a car across the lot. He looked different tonight. Instead of his usual somber attire, he wore a dark red turtleneck under his suit. The splash of color, though not vibrant, gave him a healthy glow, making him look anything but a man battling cancer.
