Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 351

“Right now…?”

Charlotte felt completely unprepared.

“Your father’s never stopped worrying about the misunderstanding from before. After learning you’re his daughter, he’s been beating himself up ever since.” Wesley squeezed her hand. “Come with me to see him, won’t you? Otherwise, he’ll never have the courage to face Mom.”

She hesitated for a moment, then nodded. “Alright.”

Charlotte followed Wesley to Swan Lake, just beyond the villa. The lakeside bistro was nearly empty.

Sean was talking to the waiter, menu in hand. When Wesley led her over, he called, “Dad.”

Sean glanced up, his eyes landing on Charlotte behind Wesley.

Charlotte found herself at a loss for words. As she faltered, Sean quickly masked his disappointment and said, “Call me whatever you like. I won’t force you until you’re ready.”

She managed a polite smile. “Mr. Rayburn.”

Sean accepted this without protest.

Once seated, he handed the menu to Charlotte, his tone gentle. “Don’t be shy—order anything you want. Really, go for it.”

She smiled. “I’m easy. Not picky at all.”

Sean hesitated, uncertain.

“Dad, you can order for us,” Wesley chimed in. “I’m just like my sister—we’ll eat anything. You know that.”

Those words eased some of Sean’s guilt. He thought about how distant Charlotte was, and couldn’t blame her, not after everything. “Alright, alright. I’ll just order something for everyone.”

The mood around the table warmed, laughter mingling with the soft clink of glasses.

Meanwhile, across town, Evander was admitted to the ICU with chest pains. Rosemary had even managed to bring in a retired specialist for a second opinion.

Ilse protested, “We just got the news ourselves.”

“That’s enough,” the matriarch said wearily, rubbing her temples. “No more arguing. I’m tired.”

She turned to Linette. “Come take me to my room.”

Miranda didn’t spare Jensen and Ilse a glance as she followed them inside.

Once the others were gone, the couple’s polite smiles faded.

Outside, with no one around, Ilse finally spoke. “Genevieve told me Evander is in the ICU. It must be serious this time.”

Jensen frowned. “They haven’t issued a critical condition notice. At this point, it’s all speculation.”

Ilse leaned in, lowering her voice. “He’s ruined himself over a woman. Why not use this opportunity to slip some of our own people into Howard Enterprises?”
