Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 320

She stopped right in front of Charlotte, a taunting spark in her eyes. “Surprised to see me back again?”

Charlotte only offered a mild “Congratulations,” and brushed past her. She had barely taken a few steps when the woman’s voice rang out behind her. “Aren’t you even curious how I managed to come back?”

Charlotte paused, turned slowly, and met her gaze. “Do I need to be?”

“Evander didn’t cut me off, you know. I suppose he still has a soft spot for the past. Sure, you’re his wife, and he punished me to give you and the Sterling family some closure, but in the end, he couldn’t really let me go.”

Tricia’s eyes never left Charlotte’s face, watching for the slightest flicker of pain, as if seeing Charlotte suffer could somehow soothe her own wounds.

But the reaction she craved never came.

Instead, Charlotte smiled, utterly unbothered. “Whether he can bear to deal with you or not doesn’t matter to me. I can.”

Tricia’s smile froze.

“As for the Sterling family…” Charlotte stepped closer, suddenly grabbing Tricia’s right hand and revealing a small red birthmark.

Tricia’s right hand had always been weak from an old injury, and now she didn’t even have the strength to pull away. “Charlotte, what are you doing?”

“You’ve had this mark since you were a child, haven’t you?”

Tricia blinked, following Charlotte’s gaze down to the red spot on her wrist.

She had indeed been born with it.

It was in such an unusual spot that she had never dared to remove it. Not that anyone else cared—and so, neither did she.

When Charlotte finally let go, Tricia yanked her hand back. “What does that have to do with you?”

“Nothing at all. Aren’t you the least bit curious how I knew about it?”

“Charlotte, what are you playing at?”

“Who exactly is this Miss Winthrop, to win such acclaim from the medical elite?”

“I heard she’s the only student Professor Aldridge ever accepted from abroad.”

People who didn’t know her background were full of curiosity, and Tricia heard every word.

She glanced over at Charlotte.

There were only a handful of big names on Charlotte’s side—she seemed almost invisible in the crowd.

“Isn’t that Mr. Carstairs over there? What’s he doing at an event like this?”

“He’s an expert in his own right. Word is, after Old Mr. Carstairs retired, he took over as head of the project. Of course he’d be here!”

Judd’s arrival brought a new burst of excitement. Everyone knew he was Old Mr. Carstairs’ grandson, but this was his first time appearing at such a high-profile event.
