Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 312

After Rosemary and Jacques arrived in Riverspire City, they checked into the International Hotel. The reason for Rosemary’s visit was, of course, the ongoing negotiations about the nanomedicine project.

When Charlotte and Evander arrived, they found Rosemary in the hotel’s expansive dining hall, deep in conversation with Professor Aldridge’s team. Rosemary wasn't fluent in foreign languages, but luckily, she had her diplomat son to interpret, which made it easy for her to keep up with Professor Aldridge’s discussions.

As someone beside Rosemary murmured something, she turned toward the two newcomers, her eyes crinkling in a gentle smile. “Lottie, Evander, you’re here.”

“Grandma, Dad…” Charlotte greeted them politely, her tone still marked by the old formality.

Until Evander signed the papers, she was still a daughter-in-law of the Howard family.

Jacques nodded. “How have you been settling in here in Riverspire?”

Charlotte replied softly, “It’s been fine.”

“Lottie, I’m sure you’ve already met Professor Aldridge?” Rosemary reached out and took her hand warmly.

Charlotte smiled. “Yes, we’ve met.”

Professor Aldridge chimed in as well, “She made quite an impression on me. I only found out later that she was Old Mr. Carstairs’ student—I must say, I’m rather embarrassed I didn’t realize sooner.”

After a bit of small talk, everyone made their way to the table.

Suddenly, Rosemary changed the subject and inquired about one of Professor Aldridge’s students.

Charlotte glanced up, meeting his gaze.

Professor Aldridge replied, “She wasn’t exactly my student. I was impressed by her research, but there were some concerns about her character. It’s a real shame, honestly.”

Rosemary looked surprised. “Is that so…”

Charlotte traced circles absently on her clean plate, unable to suppress a faint, amused smile. “Tricia’s research is undeniably brilliant. Ten years ago, she published a controversial paper on neural stem cell transplantation—way ahead of its time, really.”

Evander watched her in silence.

“What did you say?” Rosemary’s brows furrowed, and she turned to Professor Aldridge. “The student you mentioned—was it Tricia?”

“Yes, that’s right.”

Midway through the meal, Charlotte excused herself to the restroom.

As she rounded the corner, someone seized her arm. Off balance, she turned and collided with a man’s chest.

She didn’t even have to look up; the familiar scent told her instantly who it was.

His voice was low and rough. “Did you mean what you said back there?”

She lifted her gaze, unruffled. “You’re upset because I spoke up for your ex-girlfriend?”

“Charlotte.” He gripped her shoulders, pinning her gently against the wall. “Tricia and I are long over. You don’t need to keep reminding me.”

She nodded. “Alright. I won’t mention it again.”

Her easy concession drove a thorn deeper into Evander’s chest—something he couldn’t touch, couldn’t remove.

Whether she went along with him or pushed him away, there was always an invisible distance between them, something neither could seem to cross.
