Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 241

Charlotte clenched her fists, then let out a sudden laugh. “But there’s a catch, isn’t there?”

Evander paused in the middle of buttoning his suit, his brows knitting together. “And what if I say there isn’t?”

“Do you really think I’d believe you?”

He let out a quiet laugh. “So if I admit there is, would you agree to it?”

She stood there, refusing to meet his eyes.

He could see she only wanted to get as far away from him as possible. There was a flicker of restraint in his gaze as he reached for her cold hand, holding it gently. “See? You wouldn’t say yes anyway, so why even ask? I’m telling you, there are no conditions. You don’t have to believe me.”

Charlotte pulled her hand away. “What’s the point of all this, Evander?”

“Evander, you managed just fine ignoring me all these years, didn’t you? And when you were defending and indulging Tricia and her son, did you ever stop to think about me? Did you ever think we’d end up here?”

His expression tightened for a split second, then he masked it, his tone returning to calm. “Charlotte, I owe you. I’ll make it up to you.”

She blinked back tears, her voice hoarse. “Do you really think I care about your so-called compensation? Will it bring my parents back?”

Her composure suddenly shattered. She pounded her fists against his chest, her sobs spilling out. “All I’ve ever wanted is a divorce. Why can’t you just let me go? Do you think I haven’t suffered enough? Are you still punishing me for marrying you and driving away the woman you loved all those years ago?”

“Then just kill me, Evander! Why don’t you just kill me?”

He didn’t try to dodge, letting her vent all her anger and grief on him.

But then he realized something was wrong. Charlotte’s breathing grew ragged; she looked as if she could barely catch her breath. He reached out to steady her. “Charlotte!”

She was trembling all over, clearly in distress.

Without hesitating, Evander swept her up in his arms and rushed outside, shouting for medical help.

Summitview Wellness Retreat had a dedicated emergency department and close ties with leading hospitals in the city. Renowned specialists from several hospitals regularly consulted there.

In the emergency room, a nurse gave Charlotte oxygen. She sat propped up in bed, her gaze empty as she stared out the window.

The nurse quietly slipped out of the room and approached Evander. “Mr. Howard, I’d recommend having her seen by a psychiatrist.”

Evander’s hands balled into fists. “A psychiatrist?”

Natalie smiled warmly. “It’s no trouble at all.”

Charlotte said nothing more and got up to leave.

Natalie followed her down the hallway.

Outside, the driver pulled the car up in front of them.

Natalie opened the door for her. “Ma’am.”

Charlotte’s fist tightened, then relaxed as she slid into the backseat, her face unreadable.

After getting in, Natalie asked, “Where to, ma’am?”

“Just take me to District General Hospital.”

Natalie looked hesitant. “Ma’am, Mr. Howard instructed me to make sure you got home safely.”
