Claimed By The Lycan King (Kaia) novel Chapter 9

Chapter 9

Kaia's POV

For a moment, Kieran's entire body froze as my hands came around him, but he soon snapped out of it as he held me closer.

I had been so scared that he was going to do something to me. And couldn't be more grateful that Kieran showed up when he did. My chest was beating really fast, like I'd just finished a marathon race.

“I'm so sorry, Bella.” Kieran whispered, his breath warm against my ear. His hand tightened around me and I felt a lump form in my throat.

I shook my head softly, “it's not your fault.” I told him, my voice barely above a whisper.

"I shouldn't have left you by yourself, I'm sorry.” he apologized again.

I was going to tell him not to apologize for something he has no control over, but my wolf’s voice stopped me.

“He's already beating himself up for not being by your side and King is threatening to cut the man into pieces. You should try to calm him down.” She advised before retreating to the back of my mind.

I let go of him so I could look at him and I missed the warmth his body provided me with. His face was etched with guilt and worry. “You didn't leave me by myself." I started and he opened his mouth to argue but didn't when I spoke up again. “You were getting me food, and I decided on my own to look around."

"It doesn't matter, I should've known…"

My wolf stirred within me, I felt her coming to the surface. “Don't blame yourself for something you had no control over. You couldn't have known that someone like him was going to be roaming here." She said, her calm voice infusing with mine.

Kieran's eyes widened, taken back by her presence. He was hearing her for the first time. But again, our conversation was limited.

The crowd that gathered had dispersed and were back to pretending like nothing happened. Even the man was nowhere to be found which was a smart move on his part. I knew for a fact that if Kieran catches a glance of him, he'd be sorry he left his house at all.

If there was anything I knew about mates was how protective they can be and Kieran being an Alpha wouldn't end well if I hadn't held him.

His eyes flashed with anger, “I'm supposed to protect you and I didn't. What kind of mate does that make me?"

“You came just in time, and we're saved because of you. It could've been…”

Kieran let out a growl, “I'm going to kill him."

“No you won't. We're safe because of you and that's all that matters."

His body relaxed when she said this and he pulled me in for another hug which I didn't fight. For the next few minutes, he kept murmuring in my ear how he wasn't going to let any harm come to me.

I nodded, the same time I felt my wolf's presence recede and it was just the both of us.

Just then, Dani appeared by our side, Ooh, you two look cozy.”she cooed.

I left Kieran's arms to see a proud smile on her face. But her smile faded as soon as she saw the look on my face.

“Are you okay, Luna?" She asked, her voice etched with concern. Her eyes roam my body for any sign of harm, relaxing when she doesn't find one.

“I'm okay." I told her. Her eyes went to Kieran, who nodded softly.

It was only after we've all calmed down that I noticed that Kieran wasn't holding anything. Dani also noticed and a frown appeared on her face.

“Where's the food?" She asked.

As if waiting for the question, Caleb appeared, holding several paper bags. “I wasn't sure what Luna wanted." He said, answering the question I'm sure the three of us had in mind.

“So you decided to buy the entire restaurant?!" Dani exclaimed. “Does she look like she eats like a horse?"

She laughed, "you're too easy to trick. That's why I love you.” She told him and his body visibly relaxed.

Both of them were so cute together. Caleb, who was more reserved, found the perfect match in Dani who was constantly full of energy.

The car finally came to a stop and as much as I enjoyed myself, all I wanted was to take a very long shower and sleep till the next day.

“Go with Dani, I'll get your things sorted in the room."

I nodded, “thank you."

I wasn't sure what I was thanking him for, was it for saving me from the pervert at the mall or for being so considerate or for not kicking me away.

“You don't have to thank me, ma Bella." He said, “it's what I should do."

Dani held my hand and led me back into the pack house. But instead of the room, it was a living room. It was arranged nearly with no one but us there, so I guessed it belonged to Kieran.

“The Alpha's office is behind that door," Dani explained, pointing to the locked door. “But since he spends most of his time here, we thought to make it more comfortable.

"It's really nice. I like the homey feeling it gives.”

Throwing her hands up, she exclaimed. "Thank you! They called me dramatic when I insisted on having it arranged like this. But now that you're here, you can change it however you see fit.”

"Why?” I asked, confused.

"You're the Luna.” She replied like it was that easy.

I was saved from having to respond as someone knocked on the door.
