Chapt
Kaia's POV
My pregnancy was the only thing the girls could talk about until we returned back to the child care where we met Nessa playing around with the children. She was finally getting a hang of it. But as I looked at her now, all I could think about was the conversation I had with Lylah.
“Luna!" She called, running to meet me. "I'm glad you're okay. I was worried something was wrong." She said, wrapping her hands around me.
“I'm okay." I assured her.
She held my hand, telling me everything that happened while I was away. The girls went on with their normal work, but from time to time, they jumped in and out of the conversation.
“Excuse me, Luna." Ryder's familiar voice interrupted, and we kept quiet, turning to look at him.
"Don't tell me Kieran sent him to check on me.” I thought, a smile appearing on my face.
He had mind-linked me every few minutes to make sure I was okay and now that isn't enough, he had to send someone.
"That's so sweet!" Lylah cooed. “I say we throw everything and just stay with him…that way, there's no need to worry anymore.” She finished, and I snorted. The Lylah I was used to was back.
"The Alpha wants to see Nessa." Ryder said and the smile wiped away my face.
Nessa's head snapped to him, the same thing with the girls who didn't hide their surprise. They looked at me but I just shrugged as he took her away. It probably has to do with the rogue situation.
“I guess it wasn't about after all." Lylah murmured.
The next time Nessa appeared, she was sobbing. Her eyes swollen from how much she was crying. I was immediately on my feet.
“What's wrong, Nessa?" I asked her.
She shook her head, “Can I go home, please?"
“Uhmm…of course."
I offered to go with her but she insisted that she was okay and wanted to be alone which I understood and didn't argue. She finally left when she was calm enough.
“What did you do to her?" I asked, turning to face Ryder. He took his eyes off Allie to look at me.
“I swear, I'm innocent.” He said. “Alpha needed to get something straight."
“I figured. Did they catch the men she described?"
He shook his head, “and I don't think they will.” He added, and a frown appeared on my face. I could tell the girls were wondering the same thing too. We were there when told them everything that needed to be known about her attacker.
"I'm no warrior, but I'm sure even that is a problem.” Lylah said.
"Why is that so?” Dani asked.
"Caleb has been digging into it, but nothing came up…” Ryder replied. "it's like they do not exist.”
"Do you think she made them up…but why?" I asked and he shrugged. "Two things…she's scared or she knows them. But that's just my opinion.”
Things were becoming more complicated and I hated how I was finding everything Nessa was doing suspicious when she had been nothing but sweet. But it doesn't make sense to protect the people who harmed her…except if she was being threatened.
"Why don't we pay her a visit again." Lylah suggested and I paused, waiting to see if I heard right. “It's the only way to find out what we really want to know.” She continued, confirming I heard her right the first time.
I came up with some excuses and finally left the room. Locating Nessa's place was easy this time around. And her stepdad was the one who opened the door this time around.
“Luna!" He called, “we weren't expecting you." He said, opening the door for me to enter.
“Let's look around…we might find something.” Lylah said but I ignored her as I greeted the man who was in front of me.
“Bella, what's wrong?" He asked me.
“I think we might have a problem." I replied.
“He's going to love this." Lylah said, but the uneasiness and fear I felt, that I knew wasn't mine, begged to differ.
“Is our pup okay?"
I nodded and he took a deep breath, wrapping his hands around me for a few seconds before he led me into the office, shutting the door after us. “I might be wrong, but…” I started, and Lylah snorted.
“I'm sure we're right…or how else would you explain what happened back there?”
"Nessa is a witch." I finished, and a shocked…more like a confused look flashed through his eyes as his gaze remained on mine.
Taking a deep breath, I began to lay down all my suspicions, including the fact that her adopted parents know something but were keeping it underground. I didn't forget to mention the whole thing with her parents. They've had to be banished for good reasons…she did say they did something terrible.
By the time I was done, Kieran was pacing around the office, his hand running through his hair repeatedly.
“Fuck! It fucking make sense." He growled, King just as angry as he was.
Even as I said it out, it made sense as I put things together. As much as I tried not to share important information in front of her…because she was young, there were some things that we discussed in front of her, throwing all caution away.
“You didn't know, but now that we do, she won't get away with it." Lylah promised and I nodded.
As much as I was hurt just thinking about the fact that it might be true…was true, she wasn't going to get away with it, especially if she had anything to do with the death of Pack members.
I made myself comfortable as Kieran mind-linked the others to come to the office.
Things just got easier…harder depending on the point of view.
