Helanie:
"It’s true. You entered here from the pearl taken from a mermaid’s tail," my statement made both mother and daughter burst out laughing.
At that point Emmet made a small hand gesture, but he kept staring straight at me.
"Come on, Emmet. You remember me, don’t you? From our first meeting in that corridor, the forbidden one where you were taking a stroll? You’d been drinking that night. I went there because I was anxious, and I found you. We felt a mate bond and I ran away," I laughed through the memory as silent tears fell.
"You know, I was so scared. But when I got to the room and Charlotte told me that you, my step-brother, stroll there, I was so confused and lost. I thought another step-sibling was going to hate me," I mumbled, sniffling and wiping my tears.
"Step-siblings? We’re siblings?" he asked.
"Exactly. See? She’s trying to tell you that you’re siblings. Then at the same time she’s saying you’re mates. Isn’t it disgusting?" Azura complained, pushing the accusation in another direction.
"Do you remember anything at all? She’s just making up stories," Charlotte hissed, trying to pull the attention back to herself. But Emmet gave her a hand gesture, silencing her once again, then with his other hand pointed at me.
"What else do you remember?" he asked, his tone so soft I couldn’t help but smile at him.
"Then I woke up to the fact that you did not even remember. But do you remember? You were the one who saved me from that storm. I was about to get yeeted out of the window, but then you held me, put me down. That was one of the many times, but the first time you saved me. Then all the other times, Emmet, I found out it had been you taking care of me, of my failures," I mumbled, and that was when my lips started to pull down.
I noticed the agitation on Azura’s face as Emmet gave me silence.
"Princess Azura, I don’t think Emmet is strong enough to recognize the danger. It seems like he’s falling for her tricks," the gray woman cut in quickly, trying to silence me and stop me from speaking with him.
"Old woman, don’t speak up again," Emmet warned her with a hand gesture, and she almost gasped.
"Yeah, right, you bitch," Maximus suddenly blurted, earning a harsh look from Emmet.
"Okay, fine, I will stay silent too," Maximus grunted, biting his bottom lip and shutting up.
"What else?" Emmet pressed.
Azura grunted, glancing at her mother, then back at me.
I looked at Emmet, my voice trembling.
"And then–I ga—ve birth to y—our baby," My words faltered, but I could see Emmet watching me.
"Wait, she’s lying to you. How could you impregnate her? Didn’t she just tell you that you two are step-siblings?" The urgency in Azura’s voice sharpened once she realized Emmet might be feeling too strongly toward me.
"We are not blood-related, Emmet," I mumbled. "And we did not grow up together either," I explained. "But it is true, I did give birth to your baby. And you know what? I’m gonna name the baby the name you always wanted," I said, and Azura scoffed.
"See, this is the biggest mistake, the biggest lie ever. You know why, Emmet? Because I can tell you this, you never wanted babies."
