Aurora forced a smile. "Mrs. Harper, you might have misunderstood things. Things between Mr. Spencer and I aren't what you think it is. We haven't known each other for long, and…"
Aurora lowered her head and sighed, sounding disappointed.
"Is it because of his ex-wife? He must have told you about her."
Aurora nodded, her eyes dark. "Yes. He only has eyes for his ex-wife, and no one else comes close."
"Don't you want to try?" Sydney asked.
Aurora's heart leaped. "I'm not fit to, so how would I even dare? Mr. Spencer is so outstanding, but I…I'm nothing."
She was very ordinary, and women like her filled the streets. How could Theodore possibly fancy her?
"Don't sell yourself short," Sydney said. "Tell me honestly. Do you like Theo?"
Aurora blushed, her cheeks turning bright red. "Mrs. Harper, I…"
How would she dare to tell her that she didn't find herself worthy? The Spencers were a wealthy family she would never be worthy of.
"If you really respect me, then tell me the truth. Don't hide things from me, I don't like people lying," Sydney said, her voice turning stern.
"Mrs. Harper, I… Of course I fancy Mr. Spencer. I liked him the first time I saw him."
Sydney nodded. "That's it, then. If you like him, you should pursue him."
Aurora looked at Sydney with disbelief. "Mrs. Harper, what did you say?"
"My child, pursue Theo and find a way to be with him, won't you? Heal the pain in his heart and lead a happy life with him. Help him forget his ex-wife, okay?"
"Mrs. Harper, but…but he'll never fall for me. He made that very clear." Pain slashed Aurora's heart as she thought about what Theodore had said to her.
Sydney said thoughtfully, "Things have only just started between you two. He was with his ex-wife for 11 years. You have a long way ahead of you."
Tears started welling in Aurora's eyes upon hearing how long Theodore had been with his ex-wife.
"How can I possibly be a replacement for their relationship when it lasted so long?"
"Why not? His ex-wife married someone else, and her new husband replaced Theo. Theo himself told me that no one is irreplaceable in this world."
"Really?" Aurora was shocked to hear that. "Did he really say that?"
"Yes, he did, in that exact manner. Since he said so, he must really think so in his heart. He's just being stubborn right now. As long as you're by his side, he'll surely realize who is truly worthy of his love," Sydney said.
