Was she upset and felt forced to accept this due to fear of rejecting him?
"If you're not willing, just tell me. Don't force yourself. I won't cause you trouble, too. I'm not a man who would be petty toward women," he said.
Sydney shook her head. "I'm not unwilling. It's just that I'm in huge trouble right now. If I were to be with you, it might affect you negatively."
"What trouble?"
He could tell at one glance that she was troubled, but he didn't want to pursue matters if she wasn't willing to tell him about it.
"Mr. Jackson, I can tell you about it. If you think it's not worth the trouble, just send me home and we won't meet each other ever again. But if you still want me, I'll divorce my husband and I'll be with you from now on. You can have any sort of relationship you want with me, and I won't tell anyone about it," she said.
He looked at Sydney, believing that she was genuinely facing problems.
Sitting up straight, he said, "Tell me what happened. If you're really in a bind, I'll find a way to help you."
Sydney wiped her tears away and sat up on the bed.
"Geoffrey Carter," she said simply.
His name made Christopher's face darken.
Sydney told Christopher about everything that had happened, including how Geoffrey forced himself upon her.
However, she didn't tell Christopher about Sebastian. He was Sebastian's uncle. If he were to know that Sebastian wasn't truly a member of the Jackson family, she was worried that they might do something against him.
Christopher looked at her and cupped her cheeks in his hands. "So tell me, did you ever consider asking me for help and telling me about it?"
Sydney nodded.
Without any pretense or attempt to hide the truth, she confessed, "I wanted to tell you right from the beginning. I was wondering if you'd help me because I could sense you were interested in me and might help me solve my problem. But you didn't contact me afterward so I dropped the idea. I figured I might have been overthinking things. I didn't expect you to contact me later on."
Sydney spoke honestly and cautiously.
She could sense that Christopher liked her and was interested in her, but she wasn't so confident and sure that he would certainly help her. That was why she didn't take the initiative to go to him and tell him what happened.
However, now that Christopher had contacted her, had a meal with her, brought her home and even kissed her, she couldn't hold herself back anymore.
