No one said another word, and fortunately, everyone knew their place. The staff didn’t pry further, nor did they comment on Wendy’s behavior.
What could they say?
Wendy’s family was wealthy, making her the "VIP" here, while the caregivers were just employees. They could only accept the situation, no matter how frustrating. With long sighs, the caregivers left.
Wilfred pulled out the equipment from the medical kit and handed it to Karina to perform the examination.
Initially, they thought Wendy would resist, as she usually did.
To their surprise, she merely let out a cold scoff.
Even Karina, not to mention Wilfred, was caught off guard. Could a few words really have made her more cooperative?
As it turned out, of course not.
After the brief examination, Wendy began her tirade, directing it squarely at Karina.
“Don’t think just because you said a few kind words to me that I’ll stop hating you,” she snapped. “As long as you don’t give Wilfred back to me, I won’t stop coming after you. Just wait—I’ll get better, and when I’m out of here, you’ll be the first person I find.”
Her threats carried weight, but Karina wasn’t fazed. It wasn’t the first time someone had tried to intimidate her. Coming from an eighteen-year-old, it hardly felt threatening.
Karina simply nodded in a calm, matter-of-fact tone. “Alright. I’ll wait for you. Take care of yourself and get better soon.”
She handed Wendy the results, along with a list of instructions to follow.
Wendy, feeling like she had just punched a pillow, was left frustrated and fuming.
Wendy’s family was a prime example. Her parents had neglected her for years, directing all their attention to her younger brother. No matter what Wendy did, it never seemed to matter to them.
“She must’ve suffered some major trauma as a child,” Karina said softly. “The caregivers told me they once arranged a brief hypnotherapy session for her, and she revealed a few things during it.”
However, the information she had gathered was incomplete. Karina couldn’t learn from the caregivers exactly what had happened to Wendy during her childhood.
Still, even without knowing the specifics, it wasn’t hard to piece together some of the story.
A person’s personality is deeply tied to their environment, and for Wendy’s mental health to be so profoundly affected, whatever she experienced must have left a significant impact—one so devastating that even as an adult, she couldn’t move past it.
Wilfred nodded thoughtfully. “That aligns with what I suspected, though I don’t know much about her family myself.”
