By now, everyone had fully recognized Wilfred’s skills. In fact, when trouble arose, he was the first person they turned to for a solution.
With Wilfred around, everyone felt much more reassured.
On the way to the operating room, Karina trailed behind him, her gaze fixed on his back. She clenched her fists silently.
She had always thought she had made progress, but moments like this reminded her she still wasn’t good enough and still couldn’t quite match his level.
She resolved to work even harder and live up to the expectations he had for her.

Karina entered the operating room and prepared to take the lead.
When the assisting nurses and doctors inside saw that the surgeon had suddenly changed, they were visibly surprised. But in the sterile silence of the operating room, and with their faces hidden behind masks, no one spoke out loud. Instead, they quietly worried in their hearts.
Wilfred found a seat nearby, observing silently.
Karina stayed focused, pouring all her energy and concentration into the surgery. She carefully directed the team, occasionally asking for tweezers or other instruments, making sure to proceed methodically.
But then, the unexpected happened.
A nurse suddenly shouted, “This isn’t good! The patient’s blood pressure is rising!”
Karina froze for a brief moment, glancing at the monitor. The patient’s blood pressure was indeed climbing at an alarming rate.
Her lack of experience showed, and panic began to creep in.
Then Wilfred’s calm voice cut through the tension, steady and reassuring. “Don’t panic. Focus on your breathing. Think back to what I taught you—what do you do in this situation?”
Taking his words to heart, Karina instinctively took several deep breaths. “Stay calm. You need to stay calm,” she muttered to herself.
She let his words guide her as she recalled the training he had given her.
A moment later, clarity struck. Her eyes lit up as she identified the best way to resolve the issue.
With newfound confidence, Karina issued clear, precise instructions to the assisting nurses, guiding them step by step.
“Thank you,” Karina replied. “I’ll head out too.”
Though exhausted, she felt a surge of excitement as she rushed out, eager to share the experience with him.

Just as she stepped out, she was stopped by a patient’s family member.
Having recently experienced someone grabbing her in anger, her immediate reaction was to pull away.
But the family member’s voice quickly eased her tension. “Thank you, Doctor. Thank you for saving my father. He’s in his fifties, and I was so scared that he wouldn’t make it through this surgery. I can’t thank you enough!”
Hearing this, Karina relaxed, the tension melting from her face as a gentle smile appeared. “You’re welcome. Your father will need to stay in the hospital for a while to recover. He’s already been moved to his room—go check on him.”
The family member thanked her sincerely before hurrying off.
Karina’s steps felt noticeably lighter. The surgery had been tough and draining, but deeply rewarding.
