Can’t Win Me Back novel (Alyssa and Jasper) novel Chapter 2601

Alyssa received the notification during a board meeting at KS Group's headquarters. As she read the news that Justin had been granted medical furlough, she slammed her hand against the table and surged to her feet, her eyes burning with fury.

The board members, caught off guard by her sudden outburst, held their breath, terrified to make a sound.

"We're done for today," Alyssa said, her voice sharp. "Meeting dismissed."

With that, she stormed out of the conference room, her expression frigid.

Once inside her office, she began to pace, the frustration evident as a thin sheen of sweat formed on her forehead. "What happened? Why was that devil released?"

Sean's eyes were bloodshot with rage. Through gritted teeth, he said, "I've heard the details. Justin's attorney submitted a comprehensive diagnostic report claiming he suffers from severe psychosis. They've even produced medical records suggesting a hereditary history on his mother's side."

Alyssa's hands shook so violently that she had to lean forward and grip the edge of her desk to steady herself. "We were meticulous. I never imagined that bastard would have this as his trump card. He's been planning this exit strategy from the very beginning, calculating every move with sickening precision."

Sean paced beside her, looking deeply unsettled. "Even with the felony charges, a diagnosis like this changes everything for his sentencing. He was looking at the death penalty, but now, he'll likely walk away with life imprisonment or a suspended sentence."

"Then we have to find concrete evidence linking him to that pharmaceutical research base. That is the only way to ensure he receives the death penalty."

"But Damien is our only core witness, and his testimony is flimsy at best," Sean pointed out. "Our greatest key witness was Sheryl, but she's dead. There's no one left who can directly implicate that bastard Justin.

"He's truly as sly as a fox—he never shows up personally, and he never dirties his own hands. He's buried his tracks too deep."

Despite her rage, Alyssa was not one to be ruled by emotion. She took several deep, measured breaths, forcing herself to regain her composure.

Her eyes glinted with a cold, analytical light. "He has too much blood on his hands; the murder weapon and eyewitness were all presented accordingly, so his bail request shouldn't have been processed this quickly.

"There's only one explanation—someone in a position of power is protecting him."

Sean stiffened. "Who?"

A man's voice came through on the other end, his tone completely neutral. "This is Theron Rourke, Mr. Justin Beckett's attorney. Do you have some time to spare in the coming days?"

"What is this regarding, Mr. Rourke?" Alyssa inquired straightforwardly.

"Surely you're aware of Mr. Beckett's current situation. According to him, you are more than just close business partners—you are dear friends. Is that accurate?"

His voice was chilling as he sounded her out. Alyssa blinked slowly, silently balling her hands into tight fists against the desk surface. From behind, however, she looked entirely composed, not letting a flicker of her true emotions reach Sean.

"How is Justin?" she asked in a low, gentle voice, though her expression was utterly frigid.

"Not well, as you might imagine. Otherwise, a medical furlough would hardly have been necessary," Theron replied.

He then paused, his voice dropping an octave. "Ms. Alyssa, you're very important to Mr. Beckett. At this critical juncture, you were the only one he wanted to reach out to. He wishes to meet with you in private."
