The moment Jonah dropped that bombshell, his three brothers erupted in protest.
"That's impossible! Absolutely impossible!"
"Winston is my only father!"
"Winston may not be perfect, but he's the only father I'll ever acknowledge. Anyone else can get lost! Just because the king's own son is gone, he thinks he can take someone else's? What the hell? Has he lost his mind?"
Amid the heated outburst, Alyssa noticed the grim expressions on Lyla's and Colene's faces. It was as if they had long anticipated this outcome. Clearly, they knew the truth, but they had chosen to bury this earth-shattering secret deep within their hearts.
"Lyla… Colene… you already knew, didn't you?" Alyssa asked, her voice trembling, her heart pounding wildly.
Colene lowered her head. "To be honest, we only know part of it… Mandy is the one who knows everything. She and Jennifer were extremely close back then—closer than anyone else. You could say they shared everything."
With a somber expression, Lyla added, "Jennifer was already pregnant before she married into the Taylor family. Winston knew, but he didn't mind. He still insisted on marrying her.
"That said, Lyse, you are Winston's biological daughter. There's no doubt about that."
Jasper gave a slight nod. "That matches what I found in my investigation. Mr. Winston likely took Ms. Whitaker as his wife to protect her. Given how sensitive her identity was, marriage would have been the safest cover—the strongest shield he could offer."
A dull ache spread through Alyssa's chest. Though she struggled to accept it, part of her understood why Winston had taken other wives even after marrying Felicity.
It was a truth she didn't want to face, yet couldn't deny.
Felicity had never truly loved Winston.
Winston struggled for breath as a throbbing pain surged through his head. Fragments of memories flickered—his children's innocent smiles appearing and vanishing in an instant.
His eyes reddened, and tears streamed down his face uncontrollably. Indeed, he might not remember, but the pain was real. The agony of having his flesh and blood torn away from him was all too real.
"You're utterly ridiculous…"
Unable to hold back any longer, Neil stepped forward, his voice trembling with fury. "So what if you're their biological father? Did you ever think about what Mrs. Taylor went through—carrying them, giving birth to them, raising them?
"You call yourself their father, but were you ever there? Even once? When they were sick, it was Mr. Taylor who stayed by their side day and night. When there were parent-teacher meetings or school events, he was the one who showed up. He gave them his time, his care, and his presence.
"He was there for every moment in their lives! He is their father—in every sense of the word, legally and in reality. That's undeniable! As for you… You probably don't even know their birthdays, do you?"
