Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 316

Dominic’s expression was stormy as he shoved his chair back and stood abruptly.

The screech of the chair legs against the floor cut through Cynthia’s ears like a knife, sharp and jarring.

She knew that look—Dominic was angry now. Swallowing her pride, she kept her head down, not daring to provoke him further.

While he disappeared to his bedroom, Cynthia hurried to finish her soup, wiped her mouth, and called out in his direction, “Mr. Holloway, I’ll head out first. Thank you for looking after me last night. Once we’re back in Cloudcrest City, dinner’s on me.”

She didn’t wait to see if Dominic heard. She grabbed her bag and made for the door.

Stepping into the empty hallway, she quietly pulled the door shut behind her, finally feeling like she could breathe again.

Waiting for the elevator, memories of Dominic’s furious face replayed in her mind, leaving a dull ache in her chest.

Fate really does have a twisted sense of humor, she thought.

She’d lost the courage to risk it all long ago.

With a soft sigh, Cynthia stepped forward as the elevator doors slid open—but just as she was about to enter, a hand clamped down on the back of her neck.

Her scalp tingled. She spun around and found Dominic standing behind her, his fingers gripping her collar.

He was still in that black dress shirt from earlier, though now most of the buttons were undone, exposing a broad stretch of sculpted abs.

The contrast of sharp muscles beneath black fabric, paired with Dominic’s untouchable face, was enough to make any woman’s heart skip a beat.

Cynthia’s words tangled in her throat. “Mr… M-Mr…”

At that, Cynthia remembered the dream she’d had last night—vivid, detailed, and much more… provocative than this.

Dominic watched her ears turn an even deeper shade of red, clearly lost in some very unwholesome memory.

He felt a strange, almost violated sense, as if she’d taken advantage of him. With a huff, he yanked his shirt from her fingers.

“Come with me to check out a little project.”

The word “project” snapped Cynthia out of her thoughts. She saw Dominic already heading back toward the suite and hurried after him, curiosity lighting up her eyes.

If she played her cards right, this “project” might just be the opportunity Tremaine Holdings needed to get in Dominic’s good graces.
