Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 174

He was certain that everything he'd said to his assistant earlier had been captured in full by her dashcam.

If he dared to ignore Dominic's orders and keep her on, instead of firing her as instructed, Cynthia would undoubtedly take the evidence straight to Dominic.

At a time like this, he couldn't afford to take risks.

His performance had been mediocre these past few years.

Cynthia might be new to the company, but the fact that Dominic kept her so close suggested he valued her highly.

She was probably eyeing his position already.

Tremaine Manor.

The moment Cynthia stepped through the door, she was greeted by a lively commotion spilling from the courtyard.

She paused, a strange sense of unreality washing over her.

Perhaps it was because the house had felt so cold and empty every time she'd returned lately that the sudden bustle now felt oddly out of place.

Tomorrow was the welcome reception Juliet had arranged for her.

The decorators were busy transforming every corner of Tremaine Manor, with Camilla supervising nearby, giving directions.

As Cynthia took in the scene, for a moment it felt like she'd stepped back in time.

Every holiday, the Tremaines' home had always been this full of life.

Camilla caught sight of Cynthia, waving her over while still issuing instructions to the workers.

"Miss Cynthia, you're back? The young lady would like to see you in her study."

"Alright, I'll head over now."

As Cynthia walked toward the house, she passed a group of staff balancing on ladders to decorate the ceiling. She called out softly, "Be careful up there."

Without lingering, she made her way to the study.

Juliet was seated behind her desk, reviewing a guest list. When Cynthia entered, Juliet glanced up, her voice even and cool.

But with so many people attending tomorrow, he wouldn't dare cause a scene.

Besides, Dominic had already made sure Johnny's father took him home that day—no doubt he'd been given a stern talking-to. He'd probably be on his best behavior for a while.

Juliet studied Cynthia's calm expression and nodded slightly.

"If you're sure, I'll go ahead and send the invitations."

Cynthia murmured her assent, glancing at the bottom of the list where a few names were marked.

The Holloway family, the Kingsleys, the Raynes, the Guthries.

These four families sat firmly at the top of the Capital's social pyramid now.

"They've all been invited too?"

Juliet nodded. "Yes, the invitations have gone out. But apart from Dominic, I doubt anyone else will show."

The Tremaines had long since fallen out of the top families' social circles. Chances were, their invitations would go straight into the trash.
