Dominic let out a cold chuckle. "You really know how to seize an opportunity, don't you?"
Cynthia replied with a perfectly straight face, "Archimedes once said that if you gave him a lever and a place to stand, he could move the world. Mr. Holloway, forget about a lever—just give me a rope, and I'll climb all the way up to you."
The man beside her gave a low laugh, clearly amused by her answer.
Cynthia seized the moment and asked again, "So, Mr. Holloway, when do I start at Holloway Enterprises?"
Dominic didn't respond. Instead, he turned the wheel, guiding the car into a private parking lot.
"Let's eat first."
Cynthia blinked, watching him expectantly. "If I have lunch with you, will you give me a shot at the job?"
Dominic grinned, leaning in close so that she could feel his breath. "You think sharing a meal with me is enough to wipe out the billions The Tremaines owe? Miss Tremaine, you set your price pretty high."
Cynthia shot back, "It's you who's expensive, Mr. Holloway—priceless, really. Just a simple meal, and my sister's biggest crisis could vanish overnight. Sometimes the gap between people is enough to make you grind your teeth in envy."
Dominic chuckled quietly, offering no further comment.
He parked the car and climbed out with a graceful motion.
Cynthia couldn't quite read his intentions, but at least it was better than him ignoring her at the office all day.
She unbuckled her seat belt and stepped out cautiously.
Before her feet even touched the ground, Dominic was there, offering her his hand.
Still unwilling to give up, Cynthia pressed for a clear answer. "Mr. Holloway, my joining Holloway Enterprises would be a win-win for both Tremaine Holdings and your company."
"Am I wrong, Mr. Holloway?"
Dominic didn't answer. He simply waited until she had her footing, then withdrew his hand like a perfect gentleman.
Cynthia looked up and caught sight of the restaurant sign.
"The Copper Fork."
She paused, momentarily stunned. It had been so long since she'd left The Capital that she almost didn't recognize the place with its new décor.
Dominic stepped inside, and Cynthia hurried to follow.
She had said everything she needed to say. Whether Dominic would use her or not—that was out of her hands now.
