“Ha…” Wendy sank to the floor, her body trembling uncontrollably. Tears welled in her eyes, but she couldn’t hold them back. This was the man she had chosen.
She felt like a drowning fish, desperately trying to release the pain, but no amount of struggling could quell the burning ache in her heart.
Nathan couldn’t bear to watch. They had been married for over twenty years; there were still feelings there.
He knelt down and helped her up, comforting her gently. “Wendy, don’t be so upset. All hardships will eventually pass.”
At the sound of his voice, she looked up, her vision blurred with tears, her eyes lost as if she had fallen into an endless darkness.
Looking at the man she had spent two decades with, she thought of his deception, and her heart felt like it was engulfed in flames.
When she saw Joanna’s triumphant smirk, her tears fell even faster.
Every cell in her body ached, sending tremors through her. An uncontrollable sob escaped her. “Nathan, why are you so cruel to me?”
“Look, it’s not that I want to do this to you. But when disaster strikes, it’s every man for himself. We only get one life, so let’s just try to live it simply. We’ll get the divorce tomorrow.”
“Waaaah…” Wendy sat there, her face pale and haggard. She felt completely drained, unable to move a muscle as a sharp pain shot through every nerve in her body.
