Burn Me Once Burn With Me (Ruby Grayson) novel Chapter 603

Ruby felt a headache coming on and rubbed her temples. "That was when we were kids. I don't know anything about a childhood engagement. If that's the only reason you're staying here, then I really don't think it's necessary."

"Are you trying to back out of it?"

Landon's eyes widened. He could hear the sound of his already broken heart shattering into dust.

Ruby's mouth twitched. "I didn't know about it, and I never agreed to it. And even if it were true, we're adults now. The past shouldn't count."

"It has to count!"

Sensing the finality in Ruby's tone, Landon's eyes instantly turned red. He reached for her, but Sylas slapped his hand away. "Didn't you hear her? She said it doesn't count."

He glared at Landon, his eyes flashing with a menacing light.

That had been a close call.

Sensing the tension about to erupt, Ruby stepped between them and kicked Sylas out the door. "You can get back to your hotel, too."

Sylas stood there, stunned.

He stared at the door that had just slammed shut in his face, completely bewildered.

As soon as Sylas was gone, Landon's eyes lit up, ready to continue the argument.

"Thud—"

In the next second, he too was kicked out the door.

"The factory has a live-in system, but surely there are opportunities for them to go out for supplies," Ruby mused, tapping her chin. "If not… then we'll do this."

She pointed to the transport area on the blueprint. "Have Victor knock him out and bring him here. We'll have people waiting to pick him up."

Hayley and Fanny exchanged a look and nodded, both agreeing with Ruby's plan.

"Alright, I'll pass the message to Victor."

Fanny stood up and headed to the study to contact him.

Seeing that it was just Ruby, Mira, and herself in the living room, Hayley's eyes darted around, lingering on the front door before she turned back to Ruby with a grin. "Rue, Landon might seem a little dense, but he's actually quite clever. Why don't you give him a chance? A childhood sweetheart isn't a bad option."

Ruby gave Hayley a long look. "Didn't you just kick him out the door when I told him to leave?"
