Burn Me Once Burn With Me (Ruby Grayson) novel Chapter 399

A look of hurt and resentment crept back onto that young face.

Ruby couldn’t help but find it a little funny, and her mood lightened. “What’s the rush?”

She scolded softly, deliberately ignoring the pinned chat at the top of her messages and instead scrolling to Bennett’s contact.

He picked up almost immediately. “Mr. Veyne...?”

“It’s me,” Ruby replied.

There was a beat of stunned silence on the other end before a voice, incredulous, asked, “Ma’am?”

Bennett sounded utterly confused.

Wasn’t Mr. Veyne supposed to be meeting Miss Gennifer? How could his phone be with his wife?

“Your Mr. Veyne is drunk. He’s at the Celestine Grand Hotel. Come pick him up.”

She sent him the location, then tucked the phone back into Cassian’s suit pocket with practiced ease.

Just as she finished, Sylas attached himself to her side again like a persistent shadow.

Ruby seemed used to this. She stepped away and made her way to the door.

She tilted her head slightly. “You want to stay?”

The words were barely out before Sylas darted out of the room. “Let Uncle Cassian enjoy some peace and quiet.”

Ruby raised an eyebrow, neither agreeing nor disagreeing.

As she opened the door and stepped into the hallway, a commotion erupted outside.

“What do you think you’re doing?!”

It was Gennifer’s furious scream.

Ruby looked down the hall and saw Gennifer being restrained by a couple of security guards.

Bennett was striding toward them, having arrived quickly since he’d already been nearby.

“Bennett, what’s the meaning of this?” Gennifer glared at him, her anger barely contained.

Bennett nodded to her, his face cold and businesslike—gone was his usual polite smile.

“Miss Gennifer, you got Mr. Veyne drunk and didn’t contact me. Instead, you brought him here without permission. I have no choice but to question your intentions and hold you accountable.”

His voice was icy. He caught sight of Ruby and Sylas approaching.

But when he spoke to Ruby, his demeanor changed entirely. He gave her a respectful bow. “Ma’am—”

Ruby cut him off with a raised hand. “Cassian and I are divorced. Just call me Ruby.”

Bennett hesitated, swallowing hard before replying obediently, “Miss Ruby, thank you on Mr. Veyne’s behalf.”

“Mm,” Ruby answered lightly, signaling Bennett to have the security guards clear the way.

He understood at once, waving the guards aside and personally pulling Gennifer away.

Gennifer, of course, wasn’t about to let Ruby pass without a fight. She struggled, even making a desperate lunge at Ruby.
